Barr wrongly asserted that without collusion there could be no obstruction cuz there would be no underlying crime.
Muellers report is as much a rebuttal to Barrs whitewash as it is a rpt on Trump.

(5,812 posts)Treasonous orange asshole!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday I said to a friend that I did not support the death penalty. However, I might be able to make an exception in the case of treason.
Why not a thorough investigation? This is bullshit. Why has the American people been led to believe, for two years, that Mueller would expose to the country all criminal activity in the conduct of the 2016 campaign?

(358 posts)ON Rachel Maddow last night she brought up that Barr has put himself and Trump in a box over this point. Did he order that Mueller shut down the investigation due to his made up rationale that if there is no underlying crime, you cannot investigate. We will find out when Mueller testifies. Fasten your seatbelts.

(4,341 posts)to support the Republican party but that his loyalty lies with the country. I would also expect him to be a proncipled man who understands that the rule of law must be observed regardless of party affiliation.
Anything besides that would make him a traitor as well.
People need to look for their passports or birth certificates and read what it says, you will never find out a wording about "citizen of the republican party" or "citizen of the Democratic party", it simply says "citizen of the United States of America" and that is the only place where loyalty should exist, other than that, that person is a fool, and a traitor.

(13,083 posts)we need to remember that law is man made. If it is made with ill intent (to cause harm in some way directly or indirectly), it is criminal. Case in point: the separation of the immigrant children at the border. That is a gross human rights violation that this horrible administration is hell bent on inflicting on these poor desperate people on a daily basis.

(56,829 posts)that there is no tangible monetary value to the email leaks by Wikileaks/Guccifer and the definition of conspiracy that Mueller had to use needs something of monetary value to be offered.
the emails were the equivalent of a massive negative ad campaign against Clinton, but the emails themselves were not of value. It's the fact that Trump, Wikileaks and the media took the email leaks and blew them up.
I think there was a thread yesterday that "aiding and abetting" is what occurred.

(10,447 posts)while MF45 and "those close to him" are immoral clueless idiots on so many things (governing, human decency, policy), remember the tRump cabal is basically a mob-tied criminal organization. They operate the same way. It's quite possible that MF45 and "those close to him" were able to distance themselves from the actual conspiracy and russian action enough to make prosecution difficult. Throw in the effectiveness of the obstruction, people taking the 5th, and it became impossible.
That's what saved BushCheneyCo. Lying and obstruction. Bush and MF45 then canceled the consequences for the obstructor.

(34,141 posts)And why Nixon resigned - he knew there was unequivocal proof of obstruction.
Nixon was never implicated in the original crime of breaking into Democratic headquarters, but he certainly obstructed the investigations into that event.
There may not be proof that Trump or his campaign conspired with Russians to influence the election, but Mueller found that there is proof that Trump attempt to obstruct the investigation from firing Comey onward. Obstruction of a crime is a crime in itself, but Mueller was not allowed to recommend indicting a sitting president.
This is what Barr is continuing - the ongoing obstruction by the Trump administration. They are ALL complicit, from Trump and his cohorts in the White House to the Republican Congress that refused and refuses to investigate.

(54,770 posts)the ignorant white wingers. We've known he obstructed for well over a year, nothing. It isn't likely to change unless GOPers think trump will lose in 2020 and drag them down with him.

(89 posts)Obstruction of the law is a crime in and of itself. If you block, obstruct, lie under oath to a DA in order to protect a suspect, you can get arrested and convicted for that, whether or not the suspect turns out to be guilty. Barr's blatherings are not legally compelling.
