(4,533 posts)When you apply for a loan you sign a document permitting the lender to confirm your financials by obtaining IRS transcripts. The NYT article describes IRS transcripts, exactly what a lender gets.

(4,533 posts)Someone in NY Attorney General office has these transcripts from the Deutsch Bank file. The Boss, Letitia James, is anti Trump. They may be the source for the NYT.

(4,533 posts)On the other hand, if it were not a government agency decision, leak by banker say, its not so bad. Why are tax records secret? So Nixon or other powerful govt agents cant abuse opponents. The publics right to know is also important. So leak by banker, or clerk, is probably a net plus here.

(16,113 posts)It makes it tougher to complain about the leaks that hurt your side. Personally, thats why I try to avoid trying to justify or excuse something I think is wrong just because it benefitted my side.

(4,533 posts)We have a right to know about dnc emails, about payments to Trump from Russia, Turkey, Saudi. I do not complain about leaks damaging my favorites, with few exceptions. If in doubt, support the release of information. I agree with Richard Feynman that our laws classifying information are counterproductive. They impede the work of our own government employees, keeping them in the dark, while our enemies learn it all within a year with few exceptions. And much that is classified is classified to prevent the public from learning the truth about their government.

(16,113 posts)IMHO, you can either complain about all the leaks, or none of them, but to try to justify one but not another is shakey ground.
