(Full Name: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor)
Note: All of Queen Elizabeth's descendants take the family name Mountbatten-Windsor -- which is a combination of the Queen's official last name, and Prince Phillips' surname.
Archie? 'Don't' think that was on anyone's betting list.
LONDON Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, gave the world a first look Wednesday at their son and, after introducing him to the queen, announced his name: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Winsdor.
Royals tend to pick traditional names for their offspring. And so it was no surprise that before the announcement, bookies said that the favorite names for Baby Sussex were Spencer, Alexander, James, Philip, Arthur and Albert.
Prince Harrys name isnt actually Harry, by the way. Its Henry Charles Albert David.
Sadly for fans of Suits, the legal tv drama that Meghan starred in for seven seasons, Harvey or Specter werent seen to be in contention.

I love Harry and Meghan and the way they do things differently, but this seems like theyre trying too hard.

(1,159 posts)Could be named after a loved one the public doesnt know about, or a long list of other possibilities, but given the sort of hate-filled, blatant racism theyve had to deal with since day one of their relationship announcement (see comments on any article about them on DailyMailOnline), I suspect the LAST thing theyre doing is trying too hard.

(3,433 posts)It couldn't have possibly been an homage to her favorite comic book growing up or her childhood cat. Let's just go with they are trying too hard and tradition must be upheald. Much easier.
And yes I am being snarky intentionally.

(9,752 posts)From the Daily Beast: "Archie is not officially a prince, and therefore will not be called His Royal Highness. Instead, he is expected to be given the title of the Earl of Dumbarton. Prince Harry was given the Dumbarton titlewhich refers to a Scottish town to the west of Glasgowby the queen on the morning of his wedding. As the son of a duke, the new baby is allowed to use one of his fathers lesser titles as a courtesy title. He will one day inherit the Duke of Sussex title from his father.
The baby could be made a prince, but only if the queen intervenes. The queen stepped in to make his cousins George, Charlotte, and Louis, princes and princesses, since they are the children of a future king."

"Harrison" may be one of Harry's mates who died in Iraq, because it isn't a family name for either of them.
Love they didn't go the GeogeHenryWilliamLouis route.

(102,588 posts)But, it is a pretty big deal and a sign of some change that Harry's and Meghan's child is the first (acknowledged) mixed race royal heir. I celebrate that, given all the ugly racism that has blown wide open in recent years--and not just here.
