You wonder how Republicans can be so brain dead. We have all seen the video of Lindsey Graham talking about impeachment when it applied to Clinton, and then the current video of him talking about tRump. You wonder how they can be so unaware of what they are saying. Or do they temporarily forget video exists in the future?
Anyone watching the Nadler hearings today about Barr contempt will see this. Every Republican I have seen is creating video for the future. They are spewing such nonsense and upside down thinking, it is hard to believe they are aware that they are not in a dream but that this is the real world. They are even saying the Democrats are breaking the constitution . . say what? Upside down and backwards.
Of course, maybe they don't care when they are shown to be hypocrites in the future, since they are such hypocrites already. They are an embarassment to the country, themselves and their families.

(52,516 posts)they would behave differently (or be replaced by people who did) if the media consistently held them accountable for their actions and statements the way they slam democrats routinely for things republicans pretend democrats say.
instead, they have hate radio and foxnews constantly lying about everything and relentlessly talking up republicans and talking down democrats. it should come as no surprise that republicans say anything as if there's never any adverse consequence because unless they really, really, *really* get out of line, there *is* no adverse consequence for them.
for republicans most gaffes are forgotten a few days later. for democrats, even one fake gaffe can easily ruin their entire career.
so of course republicans can flip-flop or lie without repercussions.
without foxnews and the rest of the media getting the bulk of their top stories from foxnews, things would be rather different....
I think the double standard of the media & the hypocrisy of the GOP is what wears me down the most. That republicans lie & cheat & steal, & they get away with it. I'm so sick of Joey Scar types lamenting Trump in office when I remember the hours of camera time Trump's empty lectern got before one of his rallies, while the media spewed against HRC, & the free advertising every time he tweeted. Fuck you Joe Scarborough. And I what I have to say to Lindsey Graham isn't even that nice, hypocritical, two-faced POS.
It's impacted my relationships with people I know who still identify as republican. Decent people don't support the GOP. People who care about the future of their children don't support the GOP. People who believe that all people are equal don't support the GOP. There are two people in particular that I'm just so sad to know they still support the Con. I just don't get it.

(1,648 posts)Those there now know that in the immediate future, the republican party won't exist much after their Russian (THEY GOT HELP JUST LIKE TRUMP) fraud is exposed. They know they will be out of power soon for a long time and are trying to screw up as much as possible for the Democratic Party and if they are lucky, actually change and cheat enough to become the single ruling party of America.
The question is, does dem leadership realize what they are up against? Or have they worked too long with their "colleagues across the aisle" to see them for what they truly are - a threat to representative government? I have often thought that might be the problem for the long time dems - long time established relationships with old time GOPers. ???

(4,463 posts)... their base voters are very stupid, and will vote for them no matter what they say or do. Thirty to forty years ago they were fairly careful about what they said and did in public because they assumed that if their true agenda became known, voters would reject them. With the help of Fox and AM radio, they have gradually created a foundation of misinformed idiots that they can count on to vote against evil liberals no matter what the true facts are.
Thats what were seeing now in our National politics. GOP Politicians with nothing to lose. All the comparisons to Watergate and how the public turned against Nixon and the GOP are simply failing to recognize that it is a different time and a different media environment today. It wont happen like it did then. They learned from it then, and have insulated themselves from the consequences of losing the public trust.
Its an unprecedented time in US history.
The dems/left ignored hate radio & still do. Forty years of uncontested hate messaging is why we have white men wearing tee shirts that read, "I'd rather be a Russian than a Democrat." They are powerfully motivated to "stick it to the libs," even if it means sticking it to themselves.
You are right that it is not the same country as Watergate. We are in as dire a place as we've ever been in & could topple either way.
