It's quite clear we're going to need a similar declaration here in the US if we're going to continue as a Republic; that the President isn't divinely picked and the rich aren't man-angel hybrids.
How we're going to get that declaration will be up for us to decide.

(54,527 posts)It was his predecessor (and by that, I mean Dick Cheney) and his successor that made it seem so bad.
By the way, when Hirohito was made to go out among the people, he hadn't the slightest idea what to say to them, as he had never talked to the common man in his life. So, they would just tell him things, to which he would always respond, "Ah so desu ka?" which translates out as "oh, is that so?" He said it so often that he soon became known in popular parlance as Ah-so-desu-ka San (Mr. Ah so desu ka).
I had told this this to many friends over the years, and that it was one of the most often repeated phrases in conversational Japanese. My closest Dutch colleague used to rib me about it until one day when we were at breakfast in some hotel in Bern where a large group of Japanese tourists were having breakfast at the same time. He suddenly heard "ah so desk ka?" about every twenty seconds, whereupon he apologized for doubting me!
Pronounced (in case you ever want to surprise someone from Japan): ah SO dess-ka. Major stress on "SO," minor stress on "ka"
