Obama Unveils Unity Fund To Build A Strong Party To Topple Trump
Former President Barack Obama announced that the Democratic Unity Fund which will be used to back the partys nominee with a strong organization.
Obama is helping Democrats organize for 2020
Obama wrote:
The Democratic Unity Fund is a promise that whoever earns our nomination, he or she will have a strong, united, and well-organized DNC ready to spring into action the moment the general election starts a DNC thats ready to lift us all to victory in November.
Democrats are learning from their 2016 mistakes
The DNC is looking to function more like the RNC did before Trump got his hands on it. The DNC should be a separate organizing force that is dedicated to getting Democrats elected up an down the ballot. The DNC should be about party building especially in places where the Democratic Party has been neglected, especially at the local level.
It will take a party-wide effort to beat Donald Trump in 2020, and that effort will be powered by a strong grassroots organization.

(298,139 posts)who "don't trust the DNC".. haven't been paying attention.
They helped get us get our BLUEWAVE in 2018.. it's going well with Tom Perez as the Chair.
I'm Glad President Obama is working with them.. this a Unity Fund for the Democratic Party to beat trump.. it's brilliant.. and I don't want to see anyone bad mouthing it.

(7,404 posts)She was a disaster as DNC Chair. And she was left in there after the 2014 disaster. Obama needed to be tougher back then because she should not have been in that position for the 2016 campaign. Tom Perez is a big improvement.

(298,139 posts)I really I'm grateful that President Obama has started a Unity Fund to beat trump.
Just exactly what needed to be said.

(6,916 posts)He disbanded OFA in 2009. That was a huge mistake.
Love Obama but he underestimated the evilness of the GOP and he still does, somewhat.

(91,055 posts)...about what they are doing. I'm not sure why you are not, if you were ever on Obama's mailing list in the first place.

(298,139 posts)We still have to beat trump..
But, of course, there always has to be Doom & Gloomers on a positive thread for Progress.

(91,055 posts)...I remember that particular bitter battle here at DU for 8 long years, as he was accused of spelunking and bus-ejection daily.
All the while he was actually laying the groundwork for one accomplishment after another, like gays in the military and gay marriage around the country.
All the while the GOP was fulfilling the oath they made on Inauguration Day: to oppose every freaking thing Obama said and did, from "My what a nice day" onward.
Frankly, I think the lens with which I will look at Barack Obama's current and future efforts is the same one I used for his presidency.
How about you?
ancianita
(36,241 posts)I thank Michelle, Maya and Sasha.
I hope Obama's lens is the same as ours, but politically, we know so much less than he.
I just want his years of struggle to do the greatest good for the greatest number, however we interpret what we see through our lenses.

Just a small thing: his daughters are Malia and Sasha, and his sister is Maya.

(298,139 posts)Yeah.. I love President Obama.. no If, ands or Buts.
We got the BlueWave in 2018 with 45 Dems Flipping Red seats to Blue.. there were many moderates. We wouldn't have the House without them.
I appreciate President Obama and trust they will distribute the money where it's needed.

(36,241 posts)workers' airfare from California to Ohio; and as a recipient of two letters hand signed by Obama before he even ran for president, I'm not going to be put to a litmus test over my wanting his fund to fund progressives.
I'll just say I love Obama AND would also like to see his fund promote more Democratic progressives. Is that better?
My comment isn't about appreciation, trust, loyalty, or any of that. My comment is input intended to help the party build this country's more perfect union. Efforts around that are not zero sum.
You needn't interpret my words to take issue, or offense where none's intended, or as a scaffold for virtue signalling.
Before you suspect my words or motives, first just ask -- ask me why I said "but."
Like a cigar, sometimes a but is just a but. But indicates difference or change of angle or direction, not just or only a negation of what's before it.

If you want to win back this country for all Americans, vote for Democrats in EVERY election, EVERY year -- local, state, and Federal -- AND vote against Trump in 2020.
