(18,402 posts)After leaving Lower Manhattan first for graduate school in the Midwest and then a six-year stay in upstate New York, we found ourselves back in the old neighborhood on a brief visit to the city.
We decided to stop in at the old coffee shop on Houston Street at which we used to breakfast fairly often. The waitress came over and said to me, Coffee, black, right? And then added, I havent seen you in a while. It had been ten years!

(5,254 posts)Went to a tiny pub because they had the Chicago Bears on tv. Lovely time with some nice gents. Went back a year later, almost to the day, and they were still there and asked us how the Bears were doing this year! Love making connections with people.

(266 posts)I moved back to Tennessee from Manhattan for a couple of years when a parent was ill. When I returned, I went to the bodega where I had always gone to get my breakfast and the cook immediately put my bagel in the toaster and started fixing it the way I liked it. When I went to the Olde Triple Inn, the waitress saw me and said "Beck's?" Felt like home.
