(1,640 posts). . . For Alyssa Milano's "sex strike" suggestion. If the morally upright Republicans want women to "behave themselves" as a means of avoiding the need for abortions, then maybe it makes sense to show them a world where we really "behave".
I'm not saying that I precisely agree with Milano's suggestion. I haven't read any direct transcripts of what she actually said, so I can't really comment with any intelligence. But the wonderful world of virtuous women that they expound upon isn't really the world that they want. They want specified women to be "pure" to guarantee the inheritance of their property and other women to be discreetly available to fulfill their selfish needs. (That's pretty much what the last panel clarifies.)
A thorough reading of the Bible will showcase this line of thinking. All too many Republicans really do want us to return to the Bronze Age.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
