The cost of Trump's disastrous trade war keeps going up, and taxpayers are paying the price.
Trump's costly trade war with China just got more expensive. Now he's planning to force taxpayers to spend another $16 billion to bail out farmers his policies are bankrupting.
On Thursday, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Purdue announced the new $16 billion bailout fund, which is in addition to a $12 billion bailout for farmers the Trump administration approved last year.
Because of Trump's failed trade war with China, farmers are seeing bankruptcies skyrocket, hitting the highest rates in a decade. Farmers are losing access to markets in China, one of America's largest trading partners, as Trump continues to escalate the trade war.
When it comes to bailing out farmers for Trump's bad decision-making, Purdue lied about where the money is coming from. On Thursday morning, Purdue falsely claimed "China's gonna pay for these" through tariffs imposed by Trump.

(23,002 posts)You guys don't get insured by the American Govt year after year. No other business gets to have losses repaid like that. There is no reason to be having these tariffs. If you need insurance, buy it, like we all have too. Especially crop insurance etc.
You asked for it. And you got it. Not Our problem.

(453 posts)Other businesses ought to be outraged and marching in the streets. Soybeans! What about the family farmers that grow real food?
What about the farmers that have real farming issues that are being neglected.

(23,002 posts)Selective bailouts are eyebrow raising. This isn't the first time. Sorry they have bad times, but, wtf? Make better choices by now?

(23,002 posts)But yes, if that line item you describe equals 16 billion dollars, end of the day, to one group of folks, it needs to be looked at hard too.

(31,261 posts)As does banks. So farmers are not alone in the handout line.

(23,002 posts)And a block grant every season bc of trumps bad decision on tariffs isnt fair. I see where you are going, but, it's paying off the votes. Including whom you describe.

(23,002 posts)Tough love to get them in recovery. Get them off the 'gop'. Tough loving them to stop voting against the real people who pony up, to pay their bills. and do the right thing re. our country. Unfortunate.
Add..Tis the season for interventions...gop ones, primarily.

(23,002 posts)They pit Americans against each other over Defense, while raiding the coffers infinitely. Now it seems there's some entitlement thing going on where, no ask is too big.
ALL of us matter, not just the miltary industrial complex'es wants and desires. Remember the F-35.

(21,729 posts)to line the pockets of crony contractors. actual military families don't see that....
but if you DARE to oppose how much money the military gets they draw a straight line: Oppose funding = hate military = hate America

(23,002 posts)It's exactly correct and it's pretty effective, and diabolical. If we could stop the influx of so much money, every inititative Americans ever dreamt of could come true. No more fighting....w each other. Satiated Americans.
