(38,958 posts)I could give a Rat's Behind as to whether someone gets upset by my saying Happy Holidays or whatever I choose to greet them with as long as I am civil.
BTW my normal Winter Time Greeting is "Happy Rock Salt" for those of us in areas where it snows.

(1,336 posts)The word "Holiday" is derived from "Holy Day" so for those who love to be governed by their religion, wishing them a happy holy day should make them happy.
Then again, those people are generally ignorant.
The same goes for the trope, now so popular, that life begins at conception. Once again, their ignorance is showing. Their beloved Bible clearly states (in Genesis) that life begins at first breath, and ends at last breath.

Perhaps it descended, dovelike, on an evangelist's brow?

(46,331 posts)"Happy Holidays" is appropriate. There are a multitude of other holidays at the end of December: Channukah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan (sometimes), Winter Solstice.

(11,686 posts)However, one year I was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army and this guy walked past me and after I said "Merry Christmas" he turned and asked me if I was Christian. I said "no" and he went balistic. He started telling me I was sac religous and would burn in hell and that I should not be working as a bell ringer. Stomping off he said he would never put money in my pot. Well, ten minutes later he came up said hi and put money into my pot. All I had done during his Christian temper tantrum was smile and continue to be polite.
