(7,888 posts)President and First Lady. Thank you both.
Instead of "made" past tense, can we change that to all "is possible"?
Aside: Phoenix weather is like a beautiful spring day in the South of my youth today. Skies are clear, light wind, temps in the 70's F , approx. 24 C.

(23,002 posts)Woot!. We have really suffered not being under her thoughtful care. Imagine how far ahead we'd be right now.
Bill Clinton, 22 MILLION jobs in the 90's, gave the Democrats a SURPLUS in the budget. A SURPLUS. A lot of the time under impeachment.
Gore won. Imagine a country NOT voting for the VP of the guy who just delivered 22 Million Jobs, and a BUDGET SURPLUS? omg. We were had in 2000 it seems. We were on track to have a govt run that wasn't bugetarily in debt. Imagine that.
Seems trump is the result of this new system that MAY have been installed in 2000. Took 20 years to fly apart, them cheating the whole way. Who knows? Pretty coincidental. The party of great ideas and ways to get them done, somehow having to battle tooth and nail w "the other guys" who don't have the statistical numbers (!/3 to 2/3rds...) but always seem to win just enough now, to cause gridlock for Dems, and free whelling madness under gop.
So good to see Presidents Clinton out amongst the people who love them. Nice neighborhood over there!

(9,688 posts)has made me as angry as almost anything he's done so far.
DC has a long tradition of truly patriotic, truly appropriate, truly bipartisan/nonpartisan celebrations. One thing that also stands out is that presidents are NOT involved. This is not their day; this is the country's birthday. Here's what usually happens, and still WILL happen this year as well:
1. a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence from the steps of the National Archives (if you're ever in DC on the 4th, "John Adams" - or the excellent actor playing Adams to the hilt reading off the grievances against the English is an experience not to be missed. ), preceded by the Army Band playing revolutionary war tunes, complete in 18th century attire.
2. a parade (a regular one, not Donald's wet-dream of tanks and army units) in the afternoon
3. the Capitol 4th celebration (the one that's always broadcast every year on PBS) culminating in a spectacular fireworks display, while simultaneously, fireworks ALSO go off on all of the neighboring towns. (If you are watching from a hill or high-rise, the cumulative effect - fireworks from horizon to horizon - is pretty amazing.
So, we start with the fact that, at best, an additional celebration is, at best, completely unnecessary.
Then, of course, the fact that he has planned this event as, and sees himself as, a "rival" the above celebrationstells you all you want to know about this pathetic twisted man: that he sees himself as a rival of/enemy of/opponent of the country and of everything that the Declaration of Independence represents. That he sees the day all about him and his political interests.
Which brings up a final question: who is paying for this ridiculous event? If we the taxpayers are footing the bill, that's of course one more thing to add to my fury. But no matter what the source of funding for this narcissism-fest, it's a bloody waste of money and time.

All we got today was our Lieutenant Governor.
