"Steve Bannon says supporters will turn when tax records reveal Trumps just another scumbag: Michael Wolff"
This is a new article that discusses Wolff's book and what Bannon had to say about Trump:
President Donald Trumps former chief strategist believes a thorough investigation will reveal his family business is a semi-criminal enterprise and ultimately end his presidency.
The president is fighting congressional orders to turn over his tax returns, putting Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin in possible legal peril, and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon said Trump has every reason to fear their release, according to excerpts from a new book reported by The Guardian.
Trump was vulnerable because for 40 years he had run what increasingly seemed to resemble a semi-criminal enterprise, wrote author Michael Wolff in his forthcoming book, Siege.
Bannon, who is quoted extensively in this book and Wolffs previous White House tell-all, Fire and Fury, takes that even further.
I think we can drop the semi part, Bannon told Wolff. Bannon said investigations into Trumps finances will eventually cause his strongest supporters to turn on the president, when they realize hes not nearly as wealthy as he claims to be.
In Siege, Wolff quotes Bannon saying investigations into Trumps finances will cut adrift even his most ardent supporters: This is where it isnt a witch hunt, Bannon said. Even for the hard core, this is where he turns into just a crooked business guy, and one worth $50 million instead of $10 billion.
Not the billionaire he said he was, Bannon added, just another scumbag."

(15,307 posts)For all his xenophobia and misogony, Bannon is an economic populist and understands that mindset in Trump voters.
I've thought for awhile the reason Trump has been fighting investigations into his business and finances is exactly this reason. He sold himself to voters as "a successful businessman". If financial records show him to be a big phony, I do think his voters will be seriously disillusioned.

The 20+% of voters polled who say they "strongly approve" is Trump's base and they will not leave him, but the balance, call them "Trump try'ers", are, imho, fall into the group who will end up disillusioned with Trump.

(2,781 posts)This coming from a man who believed Europe was ready for another round of fascism when the recent EU election returns said otherwise.
Bannon is the type of guy who thinks 2+2 is really 5 and portrays himself as some kind of sinister genius because of it.

(4,463 posts)... The Plot to Destroy Democracy, and he mentions Bannon quite a bit. He also discusses in detail the inroads the alt-right, neo-nazi, anti-immigrant, nationalistic organizations and political parties have made in Europe over the last two decades. It is more than a little frightening how much control they have acquired. The shit we're dealing with now has been the political landscape in many European countries for a long time.
So Bannon may or may not be a smart guy. But he was not completely off base when he postulated that Europe might be ready for an ultra conservative leaning makeover.
Unfortunately he may be a lot smarter than most people think, and he is trying to disrupt European politics.

Says a lot about his supporters, doesn't it? Bannon always looks as though he needs a good hosing down. He never looks clean or well put together. Franklin Graham was organizing a prayer day for tRump, since he is besieged by the democratic pols. I wonder how that went? I imagine donations were required to the Graham scam. Franklin might need a newer model jet plane. These religious scam artists must be getting something from their support of a man who breaks every one of their moral rules.

(50,603 posts)At least by his own accounting standards. If Trump has his name on the master deed to a $1 billion building, but his equity in the place is $100,000, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles would say Trumps net worth has been enriched by $100,000. Trump claims the whole billion.
The reality is my net worth is probably higher than Trumps, and I have no real estate.

(642 posts)we know Trump has a history of fudging the numbers, so the truth could be very embarrassing for Trump. let's hope.

(5,914 posts)He just knows some numbers sound impressive, like "millions", "billions"... He just slaps a random digit on the front, and he's good to go.
Whenever he describes the count of something, whether it be angry Democrats or how many electoral votes he got, it's NEVER the same number twice.
I seriously doubt he can add two numbers between 20 and 70 in his head.
you may be right

(5,914 posts)Back in 2006, Howard Stern had Trump, Ivanka, and Don Jr. on his show. Since Trump purports to have gone to Wharton business school, and the whole family is portrayed as being business geniuses, Howard asked them all what 17 times 6 is. They all hemmed and hawed and stalled for time, but none of them could answer the question. Ivanka finally said the problem wasn't "business relevant". At last, Donald Senior, realizing how stupid his family looked on national television and/or radio, blurted out an answer in attempt to change the subject: "1,112".

(19,208 posts)There is either criminal, or not criminal. Donald Trump and his family's businesses are criminal enterprises. Donald Trump committed multiple crimes by obstructing justice. It's now up to the House of Representatives to begin impeachment proceedings. Immediately.

(642 posts)i think what's more important is to get the truth out and let the 2020 election bury Trump. Then after he leaves office he can be indicted, arrested, put on trial, found guilty and go to jail.

(19,208 posts)But I also want the orange asshole impeached. Force the republican senators to go on record as covering up for a criminal enterprise. Dare them! Up to now they've had it pretty easy. All they do is sit back and do nothing. Force them to go on record about this!
Then, after Trump is impeached, let the other charges cascade down upon him and lock his criminal, cruel, lying ass up. For life!
