Heres how the impeachment process would occur if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has been against the idea despite a push from some prominent figures in her caucus, decided to move forward with it.
First, the House would begin a formal impeachment inquiry into whether the president had committed treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. Following special counsel Robert Muellers report and his reminder Wednesday that his investigation had not exonerated Trump its likely that obstruction of justice would top the list but concerns have also been raised about Trumps personal and business dealings, including allegations of insurance fraud, dubious tax schemes and money laundering...

Senate GOP vows to quickly quash any impeachment charges
GOP senators say that if the House passes articles of impeachment against President Trump they will quickly quash them in the Senate, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has broad authority to set the parameters of a trial.
While McConnell is required to act on articles of impeachment, which require 67 votes or a two-thirds majority to convict the president, he and his Republican colleagues have the power to set the rules and ensure the briefest of trials.
I think it would be disposed of very quickly, said Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/445512-senate-gop-pledges-to-quickly-quash-any-trump-impeachment-charges

Nancy Pelosi isn't confused about the 2020 elections!
These are the senators facing re-election fights in 2020

Washington (CNN) With the 2018 midterm elections over, the stage is now set for 2020, a year that will be defined by a presidential election and another fight for control of Congress.
Democrats faced a more challenging Senate map in 2018 than Republicans, in part because they had more seats up for election. But in 2020, the GOP will have to defend more Senate seats than Democrats. As of now, there will be 22 Republican Senate seats on the line, while Democrats will only need to protect 12 seats.
