Paul Rosenzweig tweeted Monday that Pelosi could want to ensure Trump is still under impeachment when he delivers a State of the Union address on Feb 4.
Imagine what it would be like if he got to give the SOTU having been cleared by the Senate ― it would be a full-blown triumphal rant, Rosenzweig wrote.
But if the impeachment is still pending, it might, instead, be an unhinged narcissistic screed of almost unimaginable insanity, he added. Just think of how painful it would be for 53 Republican Senators to sit in the halls of Congress, watching a live meltdown on national TV. That, alone, would be worth the price of admission.
Maybe Im wrong and this hasnt crossed her mind ― but I love the idea, he concluded.

(22,056 posts)Dear Speaker Pelosi,
Please hold onto the Article of Impeachment until after the State of the Union address. The American public needs to see Trump as he truly is: a mentally unhinged, narcissistic evil man.
Then send the Articles to the Senate and watch those 53 Senators try to defend Trump.
Sincerely,
An American Patriot

(43,364 posts)Pelosi would not count on predicting the unpredictable. Rather she is demonstrating her patriotic duty to fulfill her Constitutional obligations even if Trump, McConnell, and the entire GOP, won't.
The American people, on the whole, will know. Only Trump Republicans think they can get away with it.

(12,171 posts)Trump has been impeached! The trial is pending. His impeachment will stand, whether hes convicted or not.

(12,821 posts)The trial just determines whether or not he gets removed.
Clinton was impeached but not removed, and I'm pretty sure Republicans crow about him being an impeached President. Well... They can't regard Trump as NOT impeached if the same thing happens to him.

(3,634 posts)It may not be possible to predict whether Mount Trump will erupt on any particular day, but every day this drags on increases the chance that he will erupt and do something really stupid before it is over. And dragging it past SOTU is like leading a starving dog past a raw steak. He has shown he can't resist the urge to turn any public forum like that into a personal rally, and he will be itching to shout "exoneration!" at the cameras. Denying him that chance will drive him even more nuts than usual. It seems quite possible that this could finally lead to a "have you no shame" moment beyond which denial will become impossible for the non-MAGAt observers.

(17,989 posts)Certainly fun to watch. And I bet McConnell half thinks...maybe it would be better if we did. I think a lot of Republicans have been hoping for some sort of separation to occur between them, a sizable portion of their base and the orange shithead, giving them political cover to can his ass. A tall order, given the frankenstein monster they've created in the Republican electorate, but hope spring eternal. Maybe this will peal enough Republican voters away to warrant sacking him.

(58,743 posts)She's pretty devious, and I mean that in a good way.
She's smart and knows politics in ways that Trump doesn't. Trump is a manipulative sonuvabitch who always thinks he's the smartest man in the room because he's good at pissing people off and making them reactive. His nemesis is always someone who maintains their cool and is pro-active rather than reactive. That's why Ms Pelosi and Mr Schiff have bested him in the House.
I tend to avoid Trump speeches, but a meltdown like that might be epic, kind of like a Lewis Black monologue on steroids.

(6,217 posts)..... make sure one way or the other that this will be the year that DONALD J. TRUMP will be removed from office.
By Impeachment or by being voted out of office in November.
At 72 soon to be 73, I can honestly say I have never seen any individual that has done more to destroy our country.
I hope the history books will put him in the category with the worst of the worst in world history.
I'm going to do my part to make that happen.
One final note to all my fellow veterans.
Remember the oath we all took. To "support and defend the Constitution against ALL enemies foreign and domestic."
In my opinion, Trump fills both categories... foreign and domestic.

(568 posts)It's time! We need a bi-partisan retired group of Generals and Admirals, senior retired trusted cabinet staff, others who have been fired, to form a public panel covering the timeline of all of what transpired during this course, and take questions from the Press. A forum like The National Press Club or the like. A Citizens Hearing by those that know what happened, spell it out with charts quotes and graphics. Make it last 12 hours, hold a closed door meeting with Congress if needed while they are all there.
Last, but not the least is to find a path to restoring our Democracy!
Thank you and Honor your Service!

(23,323 posts)Assuming AnusMouth is still awaiting Senate trial, or if trial is in progress, I could see some beautiful things happening.
I think Kamala Harris could be the PERFECT choice to deliver that! A WOMAN, a woman of color, DAMNED smart, PLUS someone who could really give AnusMouth some SERIOUS hellfire!

(Yes, I know Old Yeller has already been Impeached by the US HoR, but, I think she's going for Impeachment in the Court of Public Opinion. Remember, Impeachment is a political event and not really a judicial gig.)
