General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe're asking the wrong question. It's not "can the Dem nominee beat Trump?"
It's: "Can WE beat Trump?"
This is about US, not the Dem nominee, whoever that is.
It's about US -- THE VOTERS.
Can WE beat Trump?
WE CAN if we get registered, get everyone else registered, check our registrations regularly and VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE across the board. E V E R Y O N E.
This is about US. Not whoever the Dem nominee is.
NOBODY has more power to defeat Trump than WE do -- if we use it.
It's about US.
Forget who the Dem nominee is. Question is, will EVERY Democrat and progressive get their butts out and vote for whoever that is?
THAT is the only way Trump will be defeated.

(4,490 posts)A whole lot of problems can be solved/mitigated in this country if just a small additional percentage of people would do the absolute bare minimum. Because some couldn't be bothered last election, it will be more difficult in the future, but it is still well within reach to have enough votes to overcome GOP efforts to rig things in their favor. We saw that in 2018.

(377 posts)with him. Other candidates like Warren, Buttigeig and Klobuchar will have 6 months for the nation to compare them up against Trump. Their numbers will only go up during the GE campaign as people get engaged. These are not sit in stone numbers and it cannot be a reason to put someone in the Presidency.
My fear is with Biden self inflicted, who knows what will happen in a GE that wouldn't be the case with another of our candidates.
I think it is a horrible idea for a campaign to run off of "most likely to beat Trump".

(9,264 posts)...no matter how the TrumPutin Cult and the mainstream media try to spin them as unacceptable.
My mind keeps going back to the "Dean Scream" - we ALLOWED the media to ruin him in our minds.
We can't allow that anymore. Would Republicans allow that kind of thing to turn them against their candidate? Look at Trump. NOTHING turns them against him. Democratic voters need to learn to be as undeterred, un-moved, and stubborn.

(377 posts)I need to back one because today his numbers look best against Trump. Who knows what tomorrow will bring with those numbers especially with a candidate that tends to shoot himself in the foot.

(9,264 posts)His base still supports him and will still vote for him.
Democrats MUST learn to do that. Or they will lose.

(377 posts)themselves in the foot and not have a President for four years that I have to back because he shot himself in the foot, again. Aren't we tired of that? Obama didn't. HRC didn't. Any of our primary candidate. I think we can do both. Hire a candidate that is smart, savvy, progressive, effective, electable and doesn't shoot themselves in the foot, repeatedly.
If it come to supporting the person that does that consistently, then yes, I will stand behind him, or at least be quiet when he does it. I am not much into being an hypocrite, but I can stay quiet, if he is ours. It is not going to ever be about integrity with Biden, and that works for me.
Trump is vile, vulgar, criminal. That is a whole different can of worms and is disgusting continuing to support that or even staying quiet.

(82,849 posts)Keep in mind that Clinton polled 2.8 million more votes than Trump. I'll elide over any rumors of polling jiggery-pokery that may have occurred in Pennsylvania, Michigan or Wisconsin, because the media certainly aren't concerned with any of that, and like it or not they set the narrative.
But here's my point: We are inundated with endless stories about Trump voters who are getting shafted by the administration but they remain loyal to Trump. Every now and again an aside may creep into a media report of this one voter here or there who won't vote for Trump again like they did in 2016. Those stories are subsumed in the larger narrative of Trump voter loyalty. But what about people who didn't vote in 2016, or who didn't vote for Trump? We hear basically nothing about those citizens. What has Trump done to win over more voters? Can Trump pull off the same three-rail blindfolded billiards shot to draw to a runner-runner inside straight from three-quarters court that installed him in the White House in 2016? I'm not really seeing it.
As far as I can tell, Trump hasn't attracted any additional support since 2016, and has alienated any number of folks who voted for him or figured they'd give him a chance.
Yeah, we need to work really hard to get that fucker out of the White House 10 months from now. But let's go about it with an optimistic heart, ready for good news in November.

(33,432 posts)He said he can't think of a Repuke that he'd consider. And he won't. He's old, but he's not senile.
"Many" don't need to take this bait, but they are.

(6,217 posts)It seems obvious to me the Trump feels Biden is the one he is going to face in 2020. It also appears that he wants and needs dirt to repel Biden's challenge. Am I missing something?
Does he have the necessary dirt to repel other challengers? Or he so convinced that Biden could actually be the one the will crush his a$$ that he really needs dirt to stand a chance against Biden? He needs it so bad that he is willing to manufacture the dirt. He wants a birther equivalent for Biden to attack Biden day after day.
It's leading me to think I need to keep a close eye on Biden.
