Iraqi leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis was also killed in the strike. Yet the media won't mention his name. His death also inflamed the Iraqi government to boot the US out. Surprised it took them this long. Life in Iraq is desperate. All the oil money is being sucked out of the country. Electricity, hospitals, roads, water, and sewage systems are still destroyed and unemployment is sky high. Shock and awe indeed.

The Iraqi prime minister revealed he had been due to meet Soleimani on Friday, the day he was killed along with six others when their vehicles were hit by missiles as they were leaving Baghdad airport.

The Iranian commander had reportedly flown in from Lebanon or Syria in the early hours of that morning.

"I was scheduled to meet martyr Soleimani at 08:30 in the morning," the prime minister said on Sunday.

"He was killed because he was set to deliver a response from Iranians to a Saudi message, which we delivered to the Iranians to reach an important breakthrough in the situation in Iraq and the region."

Also killed along with Soleimani was Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, an Iraqi who had commanded the Iranian-backed Kataib Hezbollah group.

About Elvis, I was drafted after he got out. My claim to fame is that he got out
at Fort Dix, N.J. My A.I.T. (advanced infantry) was held at Ft. Dix. I had volunteered
for Nam but on my last day at Dix (Ft. Ding-a-ling) my battalion was informed that
we were headed for Germany because our training was inadequate. The reason was
we were all O.C.S. candidates and there were not enough facilities available to
train us. We no longer had to serve the extra 10 months for training so we got sent
to Germany. Cheers.

The announcement that we were going to Germany was a surprise.
We were training for combat in Vietnam. We are just kids. I just turned
20 and was homesick. I regretted volunteering for an additional ten
months. I hated the Army.
I went to Berlin and counted every day on a calendar. It was not
a vacation, far from it. One time I worked 117 days in a row. Many of my
days were 24 hours. Of course we slept but we were on duty. Sure glad
they kept me out of war, and I appreciate all those that have defended
our country all these years. All these wars since WWII not necessary.

Oh, thanks for the videos, I wish I could read Beau's hat. His dad was a

Trump is very, very careless with US properties.
In the last few months he has lost 3 military bases that were abandoned and Russia picked up for free
Now the 750 million dollar embassy in Iraq.
I doubt that Trump pays any taxes so you and I will be paying for all of this. Plus the wall he lied about.
He is a clear and present danger to the US.

Whether by incompetence or design it's about damned time that we get the hell out.

The ME needs to be ruled by strongmen like Hussein, Assad, the Ayatollahs and the rest.

We've never had any business there.

I thought our business had something to do with oil among other things? That is, who has it, gets it, moves it, etc.

Yes, let’s just get out. They could use the Green Zone as a government center, art museum, archeological museum, children’s playground and cultural center. This would at least and at last be a good use of our war dollars!

81. Let's hope this delays, or even mitigates, Iran's need for retaliation

Trump just made Iran the winner of the Iran-Iraq war.

Since the Iranian leadership is in general a more rational actor than the Trump administration, maybe the Iranians will wait to see how the win Trump handed them plays out. We can hope, anyway.

Our current position in Iraq is now untenable without the infusion of hundreds of thousands of ground forces. If the US decides to fight to stay, we would be fighting the Shia and possibly the Sunni's. Or, the whole thing degenerates into a parallel war of occupation and Civil War . . . the Iran/KSA proxy war moves to Iraq from Syria.

Que Trump talking about what great allies the Kurds are, and the need for 50,000 troops to bolster Iraq Kurdistan. Problem there is we need Erdogan to allow supplies to pass through Turkey.

Maybe Pompeo's coalition he talks about is the US with Wahhabi Sunnis's . . . the guys that backed 9/11 and ISIS.

Iran-backed militias in Iraq might kick us as we exit, for two reasons:
1. They want to retaliate for for the assassination of Soleimani.
2. It will make us look like we're running with our tails between our legs.
