And the military didn't blink
In fact they gave him the idea
So don't expect them to stand up against Trump's nuke fantasy

(39,171 posts)yes, he was a government official. He was also the commander of a military force aggressively waging a series of proxy wars against the US and it's allies.

(90,367 posts)... America's cabinet level folk are at risk.
This was an extra stupid move by Red Don, I don't remember US going around killing cabinet level and above folk without declarations of war.

(39,171 posts)being a cabinet secretary is not a magic shield.

(90,367 posts)Let's not get into semantics here
it's not a good idea going around killing cabinet-level members of any nation state cause that puts ours cabinet-level members on the block and none of these countries are going to decide what's best for their country based solely off US military power

(39,171 posts)If he was involved in activities that led directly to the death of Americans (which I believe - for example Quds was the conduit for sophisticated penetrating warheads for IEDs into Iraq that killed and maimed hundreds of Americans.) then he was a legitimate target.
Not saying it was a smart choice but his status in the Iranian government would be the least of my concerns.

(90,367 posts)... know why they're being proffered as a credible source, cause that's what I asked for.
If Canada wants to go off and kill cabinet level leaders of nation states let them, and send their people over for the clean up too.
UN or NATO designates them as such I'll listen but they haven't so bottom line, there's ... NO ... credible source for the QUD forces being designated terrorist and if there was that's still not a reason to off cabinet level members of nation states.
A nation state doesn't have to have trillions of dollars to train white skinned snipers to blend into US society and start taking the heads of dignitaries.
Looks like the reports of 80 million for Trumps head was announced on Iranian state TV ... there's no one taking it back.
This is stupid

(82,849 posts)My own Senator Ron Wyden expressed the belief over the weekend that the military wouldn't carry out illegal orders from the President. I'd really like it if Wyden were right, but I don't think he is. In the face of the Eddie Gallagher pardon, it will take extraordinary courage for a career officer to say no to an illegal order, and it's going to take a lot more than one officer saying no.
