Graham Suggests Changing Senate Rules to Begin Trial
January 5, 2020 at 2:27 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 112 Comments

“Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham suggested that Republicans should try to change Senate rules governing impeachment if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to withhold the charges against President Trump — an unlikely 11th-hour bid to begin a trial within days without the actual documents,” the Washington Post reports.

“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was unequivocal in a Senate floor speech on Friday that ‘we can’t hold a trial without the articles; the Senate’s own rules don’t provide for that.’ But Graham, a close ally of Trump, floated the idea of a unilateral GOP move, saying he would work with McConnell to allow the Senate to proceed without the two charges against Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.”

They did it with judges but it is doubtful they would do for rules?

However, Trump may be able to persuade them.

re: Impeachment or the Trials. That's Never been 2/3rds. The House during Dumpsters Impeachment didn't use 2/3rds to set our rules

You mention Judges....Federal Judges... 51 vote rule change started with Leader Reid...he only required a simple majority to change the rules...to require a simple majority, 51.. for confirmation ...Turtle escalated it for SCOTUS.
I hated when Sen.Reid went nuke for lower crt Nominees because I knew the freak Turtle would do it bigger if they got the Senate back.

“however, if the matter before the Senate involves changing the rules of the body, a two-thirds majority is required”

I'd love to read that "expert".....that's FOS......and Wiki doesn't say 67 for Senate Trial rules.
The Constitution is clear on Impeachment and the Trial....each side sets their rules...2/3 is NOT required....and you can't show it is.

8. Would seem to me that this would be unconstitutional even with 67 votes

The constitution clearly states the sole power of impeachment belongs to the house of representatives while the sole power of trying belongs to the senate.

I could've swore just a couple a weeks ago that republicans were shouting Trump isn't really impeached yet, because the House hasn't send articles to the senate? Now their talking about having a trial without the articles from the house. Talk about trying to have it both ways.
