'Blinding Sun' Causes Crash Involving 30 Vehicles On Interstate 95 In Maine

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/blinding-sun-causes-crash-involving-30-vehicles-on-interstate-95-in-maine/ar-BBYHJVi?ocid=spartanntp

CARMEL, Maine (CBS) – Maine State Police said 30 vehicles were involved in a pileup during the Tuesday morning commute on Interstate 95. The road will likely remain closed for most of the day after the crash, which led to injuries and stranded “several hundred motorists.”

It happened around 7:40 a.m. on I-95 North in Carmel near mile marker 174. Police said initial reports point to blinding sun as a likely cause for the first crash that led to a chain reaction

If I had money to place a bet, I'd bet that tail-gating was involved. When the sun is up, people need to leave distance between vehicles and slow down.

I always learned that no matter the road conditions, a driver was responsible for being in control of their vehicle.

There was just one in Pennsylvania a few days ago w/ 5 fatalities and 60 people injured. These things always seem to happen in clusters. I hope nobody was seriously hurt.

the car in front of you, you're sure to be cut off by someone. I was in a situation just recently where there was snow on the ground and very low, very bright sun, so the reflected light was extremely blinding. I was driving carefully and had plenty of space in front of me, but some dude in the lane next to me cut over with no signal and not enough room, then braked. I don't think he could see me, and I could barely see him. I honked and swerved onto the shoulder to avoid him, JUST BARELY. If there wasn't a shoulder I don't think I could have stopped fully in time. And that might have gotten me a ticket despite it being entirely his fault. Thank goodness he didn't cause a pileup like this.

The assholes today? PUnch it! Tailgate! Raining? SPEED UP and get closer to the one in front of you! Red light? GUN IT! Stop sign... just look to see if anybody's coming. Weave in and out! Cut people off! Jump to the head of the exiting line of cars and dead stop so you can cut in.

This is Atlanta driving.

Totally agree.. If you keep a two second distance from the car in front, some one is gonna take that space.. Down here in So Fla red lights are only a suggestion and forget about stop signs. Using directionals are a sign of weakness....
I think I'm gonna make a youtube vid of all my "almost greatest hits" from my dash cam.
I'm moving soon so I'll get to taste a different kind of road insanity..

That is until they get into a wreck and the car comes apart around them.
