Longtime Facebook executive Andrew Bosworth said in a blunt internal post that the companys advertising tools were crucial to the election of Donald Trump in 2016 and may help him win again but that executives must resist the temptation to make policy changes that would alter the course of legitimate political debate.

So, in other words, the hell with fair and free elections.
Congress needs to drag them back into hearings to explain this cavalier attitude about our democracy and fair elections.
Their business model is more important than our elections?
This is an admission that the Netflix movie "The Great Hack" is true.

Does it make any difference who the Democrats nominate? Is there a 2016 type fix in for the 2020 election?
Right up to the polls closing in 2016 Hilary looked like the likely winner.

(6,215 posts)7. EXACTLY! But how do you get the powers to be to realize that the old polling etc. is outdated.
It's a new battlefield and you are right. Cambridge Analytica + Facebook + Julian Assange is a disaster waiting to happen!

(100,108 posts)8. It already happened but how do you prevent it from happening again?
The 2016 election was a right wing coup orchestrated by a dangerous cult and egged on by social media. It's a dangerous cocktail. Thankfully most of the major players have been found out but we still have a long way to go to prevent it from happening again.
