Ukraine demands punishment, compensation for airliner downed by Iran

President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded Saturday that Iran punish those responsible for the downing of a Ukrainian airliner, pay compensation and apologise.

"We expect Iran... to bring the guilty to the courts," the Ukrainian leader wrote on Facebook, calling also for the "payment of compensation" and the return of remains.

Tehran admitted Saturday that it accidentally downed the Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) plane, killing all 176 people on board on Wednesday, shortly after launching missiles at bases hosting US forces in Iraq.

"We hope the inquiry will be pursued without deliberate delay and without obstruction," Zelensky added.

The act while unintentional shows a reckless disregard for human life. The perpetrator(s) was/were acting in such a manner that it could result in someone's death.

is beyond belief, I just don't understand why they didn't suspend ops at IKA while hostilities seemed imminent.

RIP to all the victims of this horrible tragedy.

If X is driving while intoxicated and gets in an accident and kills someone while the death was unintentional X was acting in such a reckless fashion he or she should have known grave injury or death to other motorists was a possibility.

Can the World Court get involved? I know they move slower than molasses but I don't see any other way.

planned attacks by Iranian sponsored thugs to attack supposedly four US embassies. I find this rationale/excuse unbelievable.

I would think with the US' reputation in tatters across the world, our embassies look like fortresses and are hidden behind layers and layers of moats and minefields (I'm kidding but you get the drift). People are always wanting to attack the US embassies and it has seemed that way for a long time.

Rump using this excuse seems rather farfetched and hard to believe, especially with his constantly lying ALL of the time. No one of a reasonable mindset believes rump any more. Why should they?

He's responsible for putting Iranian air defense units on heightened alert by ordering the murder of an Iranian state official.
