IMO, here's the problem with blaming Trump for the PS752 shoot down...

Given the massive protests in Iran (something Iran watchers are calling "remarkable" and "brave" ), there's a possibility they could overthrow the IRGC regime.

Blaming Trump for the crash instead of the ones who effed up, (don't forget, Iran never grounded civil aviation flights despite knowing there could be a US counter-attack, and then shot down PS752) could give Trump an opening where he takes credit for regime change in Iran.

Of course, it's absurd, but you know they'll be saying this in the run up to Nov.

Good thread by Yashar Ali on the subject:

1. He has blood on his hands, but he is certainly not the one ultimately responsible.

And yes, I agree that the focus should not be on him for this tragedy.

Focusing on any tangential responsibility merely deflects from so much for which he is directly culpable.

This is a thing that's been around for as long as I remember.

Let's say I decide to leave something valuable on my lawn and it gets stolen. I bear a lot of responsibility for negligently mishandling a valuable object. However -- the person who stole my property is still full-on responsible for their actions. They decided to trespass onto my property and take something that did not belong to them. He or she is a thief.

Trump is responsible for assassinating Soleimani and creating a state of war.

The Iranian government is responsible for not grounding civilian aircraft.

The Iranian military is responsible for poorly training the antiaircraft crew.

The antiaircraft crew bears the responsibility for being triggerhappy and shooting down the plane.

The fact that multiple people are responsible does NOT diminish anyone's culpability.

What about the responsibility of the airline - why are they selling tickets and flying into dangerous airports where passenger safety is not guaranteed?

Iran shot down the jet... their fault... but but b/c it was the result of American aggression..
Iran shot missiles into Iraq..... their fault..... but but but it was b/c tRump assassinated our general but but but it was b/c the general was arming and training the groups that attack Americans....
but but but while killing ISIS in Iraq they were killing pro Iranian forces so we HAD to retaliate...
but but but if the US had not attacked Iraq there would BE no ISIS.... but but but ad nauseam back to the CiA and MI6 taking out a democratically elected govt in Iran in the early '50's

Where do you draw the line in the sand and say everything after this is justified and everything before this is not a valid reason????
I guess it's the guys who "win" and write the history books...
YMMV
rant mode off.....

6. Here's another problem with blaming Trump.

It's not directly his fault that this happened. His actions led to other actions that led to this, yes. By that reasoning, let's blame his mother for plane crash, for bearing this monster of a child!

I like to see Democrats as the voice of reason in this crazy time, not one end of a polarized nation where both sides are hyperbolic. Trump bears responsibility for just about every bad thing that has happened in government over these past three years. Why risk our credibility by blaming him for the few things that were not under his control?

7. It's like blaming Walter White for downing a jet in Breaking Bad

Walt elected to not save a dying woman, which effectively was a passive murder. Her grief stricken father lost focus at his job as an air traffic controller and that contributed to the plane crash. Walter White did not technically cause the crash, but the truth is that it never would have happened had he not caused that woman to die.

Trump order a hit, which was a blatant and aggressive murder. The angered Iranian military personnel lost focus at their job and that directly contributed to the plane crash. Trump did not technically cause the crash, but it would not have happened if he had not murdered their general.

Donald Trump has broken bad. The only difference between him and Walter White is that Trump is too stupid to be a competent and skilled chemist.

missile strike and shoot-down! There were certainly a few individuals even hinting that Trump was responsible for ordering a missile strike on the Ukraine airliner, which was patently ridiculous for anyone with critical thinking skills, if one knows anything about how powerful and all-encompassing Iran's armed forces are.

Look, Trump is a vile fucking monster, but he has some really obvious "tells". When he was questioned about the shoot-down, he did his kind of hesitant mumbling, and said something about them flying in a "rough neighborhood". It took me a few seconds, but it then hit me like a lightning bolt - THIS FUCKER IS LITERALLY BLAMING THE VICTIMS FOR THEIR OWN DEATHS, for simply committing the "crime" of traveling to and spending time in Iran in the first place!!

All of that "national unity" the mullahs thought they now had in their back pocket following the Soleimani killing just crumbled in the face of the acknowledgement of their own fuck-up, and I desperately hope Needy Amin and his minions don't do something incredibly stupid to throw a monkey wrench into this genuinely organic push for democratic change in Iran.

Killing begets killing.

The chain of cause and affect was started by Trump killing one of Iran’s top military commanders and a group of others who were visiting or representing an allied country. We weren’t at war with any of them.

Iran, of course, is responsible for shooting down a passenger jet, but they wouldn’t be firing SAMs on hair-trigger alert — nor bigger missiles at US bases in Iraq — were it not for Trump’s intentional act of war that put Iran on a war footing.

I suppose you can say the U.S. government installing the Shaw of Iran was the start of the shit storm, and you could be right. But every action has a reaction, and there really is no beginning. ALL actions are REACTIONS.

Scientifically, given the knowledge and know-how, we could probably trace all reactions back to a one-celled organism that swam left instead of right... (I suppose the ultimate Butterfly Effect...)

But the recent happenings in this string of shit storms lays at the feet of the REPUBLICAN SENATORS who were pushing the turd to do something/anything to distract from impeachment. Include Bannon, Miller, Barr, Bolt, and any others who were having a wet dream over this fiasco.

Every miscalculated step was a result of their blood thirsty, desperate attempts to cover for the fascist pig squatting in the people's white house.

They ALL have blood on their hands, and should be facing accusations of murder every time they show their face. The Turd, especially.

I hope to eventually be able to see the looks on their faces when they HAVE TO ACCEPT that they have been propping up the biggest, most epic FAILURE of a scam artist this country has ever known. They need to die knowing the shame of what they have done.

All the Iranians did, in this small sequence of events, was assume that the airliner that they mistakenly hit was an attacking U.S. military plane. Quite an understandable reaction, since the turd announced to the world that if THEY responded to HIS assassination of their general, he had 52 targets lined up for destruction.

THEY finally had the nerve to admit their blunder.

Do you think the turd would have ever admitted that? FUCK NO. He would have made sure someone else was blamed, while he would spin, and strut, taking nonexistant credit for being so Presi-fucking-dential. As a matter of fact, THAT is what he is currently doing.

The Iranians certainly aren't innocent in all this, but remember where their sequence of events started, in 1953, and who started THAT string of shit-shows...

And if you REALLY WANT TO FACE THE TRUTH, it seems like all these shit-shows are for, by, because of, and for the benefit of RELIGIONS. (which seem to have oil as their benefactor... do you think that we would even have a similar presence in the middle east, if not for oil? and Israel? THAT (Israel) is a whole different string of shit shows..., yet it is still "religion" dressed up as nationalism)

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine…
