Senate Bill 131 would mandate all public and charter schools display a "durable poster or framed picture" in each classroom and library with the words "In God We Trust" printed at least 4 inches tall and 15 inches wide, along with similar-sized representations of the United States and Indiana flags.
Under the plan, schools would be responsible for the cost of printing, framing and installing the phrase and image in every classroom by July 1, unless the posters themselves are donated or schools are provided donated funds to cover the expense.
And, of course, this is coming from the party of less government.

I ran for school board in the early 2000s amd had a AFA person who shared with me their strategy to get the whole culture wars thing going. They wanted a resolution passed to put In God We Trust on every school wall- not because they wanted it, but rather because it would stir up dissension and identify who was and who was not on their team.
That, and resolutions requiring the Pledge of Allegiance. Again, not because it would be good, but rather because it would cause a tussle.

(609 posts)A similar bill was passed a number of years ago in Virginia. I was part of a local First Amendment group at the time, and since there was nothing we could do about the "In God We Trust" posters, we decided that we would offer schools in our county a companion piece. We designed and printed posters that highlighted "E Pluribus Unum" -- our country's original and inclusive motto -- and offered them to our superintendent, who said that we could then offer them to each school in our district. Many principals accepted our posters, and they still hang in school lobbies, next to the other posters.

Perhaps they will provide parents with a checklist of the thousands of historical versions to chose from so they can provide each child with a label to wear to school.......
I hope the ACLU gets on this like stink on shit........
