(16,887 posts)I think Trump would yell Fire in a theater with the hope of creating mass panic, injuries and mayhem and do it for his entertainment and pleasure.

(12,712 posts)Have you considered that this is not a matter of bungling along?
My strong impression is that we are seeing, real time, how a tin pot dictator does things in order to wrest power away from the people. It seems to be classic to me and therefore, intentional.
Where do you draw the line when your only true intent is to retain and expand power as if it was your only way of assuaging your deep, psychological flaws and distortions?
He would hire people to yell fire in every theater on a regular basis if he could, or even have a direct line to the speaker systems and yell it on a whim anytime.
I think his wacky, bungling appearance distracts from his ulterior motive and it is easy to miss this. An example is that there have been several major cult leaders who were really zoned out on several drugs and even deteriorating mentally, but they still retained power and exorcised it for hundreds of people. So, you could be ultra-stoned and even babbling some weird stuff and, if the system you are in allows it, control and destroy at your whim.

(7,947 posts)Big Brother in 1984--
You are a slow learner, Winston."
"How can I help it? How can I help but see what is in front of my eyes? Two and two are four."
"Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. You must try harder."
Yesterday the White House staff tweeted out that it was "the first snow" which wasn't true-- obviously. There had already been a first snow, and it was over 50 degrees at the White House, so there wasn't any snow at all.
Trump's cultists actually tried to justify this. They don't actually need any evidence or even sense... they just say it's true somehow.
By demanding that his cultists (and he doesn't care about the rest of us) believe more and more idiotic things just because he said them, he is utterly cementing their loyalty.
It's sad. At least Winston in 1984 was being imprisoned and tortured before he finally agreed 2+2=5. Trump cultists do it without duress.
And the rest-- the normal Republicans who know very well that 2+2=4-- just pretend not to have heard Trump say anything crazy. "What? I didn't hear that!" my uncle will say, as if his not hearing it means it never happened. They'll go along with anything as long as there's an "R" in the White House.
So there are the avid dupes and the craven collaborators.

(12,712 posts)Nice assessment there. Well said and to the point.
I agree fully. I also am very thankful for Orwell's insights and presentation of the "playbook". It helps us see the forest rather than just the trees.

(7,947 posts)Orwell wrote the playbook. What's scary is Trump has doubtlessly never read 1984... he just instinctively goes for these tactics.

(11,804 posts)Republicans - how do you compromise with this sort of mentality?
Republican - "I want Democrats dead"
Democrats - "I don't want Democrats dead"
Compromise - "We'll savagely beat and maim the Democrats."
You can't compromise when the position of one of the two sides is "We need to eliminate the other side."

They are only wrong by 3 Presidents. We over threw Mosaddegh in the 1950's during EISENHOWER's administration, but don't tell that to a conservative they will start screaming and plug their ears like a 3 year old.

(6,841 posts)So official White House (US) policy is now what?
The DEM leadership is corrupt and helping the Ayatollah, right?
We need his evidence, witnesses, and personal testimony.
If this is official policy then I would say his SOTU can't be delivered in a house of congress controlled by we the people.
