Looks like the Mitch McConnell who was "just fine" with the House slow-walking articles of impeachment last month ("He's So Fine" ) gave way to the McConnell who wants to get to a Senate trial right now ("Get This Party Started" ). McConnell especially wanted to coordinate with the White House on the trial, and get their "strategy" all worked out ("Casey Jones" ). Another quarter dropped today, and McConnell punched up "Nowhere Man" b/w "The Fool on the Hill" (1:12 mark of the embedded video):
Crooks and Liars post here, with video of McConnell.
'No Sentiment In GOP Conference' To Dismiss Impeachment Articles, Says Sad McConnell
McCONNELL: There is little or no sentiment little in the Republican Conference for a motion to dismiss. Our members feel that we have an obligation to listen to the arguments, and we've laid out in this resolution an opportunity for everybody to sit there. And remember, senators can't say anything. And, so they'll have to sit there and listen. To listen carefully to the arguments by both the the prosecution and the defense, to follow that up with written questions, submitted through the Chief Justice. And, that means listening to the case, not dismissing the case.
Now, in case you missed it, let me point out the new role McConnell has limned for the Senate: "Senators can't say anything" during the trial, they have to "sit there and listen." Does that sound like the same man who's been pouting about that mean old Nancy Pelosi for the last few weeks? "Sit there and listen"?
