seems to be the new normal for women in television journalism? When did this style of face painting become normalized? Or is it now expected? I recall being shocked at KellyAnn Conways positively ridiculous eyelashes. But now, watching the debate, I see more of the same. I kind of thought it was a republican thing...but now it appears to be inflicted upon all women once again.
I thought that we got rid of these preposterous bound feet, super high heels, or any other silly ornamentation that makes us look like the fools that the patriarchy wants women to be.

(4,646 posts)They were dark red and silver, really long, and they looked super cool. Easy to apply with a little strip of glue, a tiny tube of which was included in the package. Id not wear natural-colored ones, as I dont wear any makeup, but am hoping crazy, rave-y, psychedelic ones come into style. Thats a trend I would thoroughly enjoy!

Yes, when I turned 16 and was finally allowed to wear makeup, I did wear it a bit. And I would throw on some mascara and lipstick for work.
I am very comfortable in my own skin, and actually feel unnatural with makeup ON. It feels very fake to me.
When I see women wearing makeup that appears to have been applied with a trowel, I don't understand it.
I have seen so many pictures of women who have taken before and after pictures, with and without makeup, and nine times out of 10, they looked better without the makeup on. Go figure.

(118,861 posts)put women reporters in cocktail dresses. I blame that on Mary Hart and Entertainment Tonight. Noticed it when conservatives wingnuts in canada tried to start up a fix news north. It tanked. But the women were all dolled up in cocktail gear and make up. Today the women journalits in canada still wear suits at times and some lesser makeup. Nowhere near what you see on some stations in the US. No full on Kelly Annes. It is tv though.

But to many of us forcing women to wear that amount of make up is insulting and demeaning. Which is why I posted this in the first place.
What people chose to wear in their own lives is one thing. What for profit media enterprises appear to be forcing only their female employees to wear is another.

(5,131 posts)Make up is a fun activity for many. Women are free to make their own choices. Wear make up, false eye lashes, 4 inch heels, flats, flip flops, their bodies, their choices. I am bothered by people always debating about what a woman ought to or ought not to be doing with HER OWN SELF.

Why only the women are so heavily made up. And yes, it might be that they are doing this on their own, that they simply love wearing all that make up. Clearly many do. But I see no men made appear ridiculous and idiotic in this way. Only the women.
And I have noticed it more and more with politicians, too.

(2,575 posts)This could purely be my age. False eyelashes worn in professional settings is something really different from where and when they used to be worn and I don't even think I've realized until this moment that it actually is a trend. It has just been an individual set of observations of "XX is wearing false eyelashes?." Thanks for making me realize that I'm not adapting. I went through this for years with exposed bra straps. No matter who was wearing them, I had to fight the impulse to quietly tell the person their bra strap was showing before I realized that oh, they meant for them to be showing. Fashion. Interesting.

(51,644 posts)about 5-6 years. Same with unusually colored hair and nail polish for all ages. I think that is what is so strange to you. Perhaps seeing it on middle aged women is surprising. Same goes with low rider skinny jeans and super thick soles on shoes. All of these are fashion DON'Ts in my opinion. Fortunately pants are going up to the waist again which is much more flattering, comfortable and fashionable.

From what Im seeing, many womenand no few men are having a lot of fun with it, because its by no means a requirement or expected. Theres a Nordic look, that is a makeup to look like you dont wear makeup style.
Beards are in for guys, but this time theres all kinds of product for it, interesting trims. Different hair styles
Im no makeup fan myself, it doesnt look good on me, except in very small amounts but I understand the attraction.

When she has photos done or a presentation she wears them but in a more natural look. She cuts and trims them, placing a partial whisp on the upper corner and a shorter but slightly fuller partial in the upper middle. It gives the appearance of length and fullness without it looking overdone. Her natural lashes are short and blonde so it does help.

But I can recall a time in the late 1970s when false eyelashes were huge, and lots of women wore them.
While I am capable of looking at another woman (and despite the screen name I am female) and think she ought to wear less makeup, or that a little makeup would definitely improve her looks, and I can think of one friend who wears her hair far too short, unless someone actually asks me for my opinion, I keep those opinions to myself.
