Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDid anyone notice a tremor in Chief Justice John Roberts right hand?
It looked like there was a very slight, almost imperceptible tremor in the fingers of John Roberts right hand as he was being sworn-in today. Before that, when he read from the paper he held, it was shaking as well. Then again, when swearing in the Senators, the paper he was holding was moving about pretty good too.
The whole thing starts at about the 8:15 mark:
My eyes aren't great, our monitor is on the smallish side, maybe it was a case of nervousness/stage fright (but his voice was strong) or flimsy paper doing what flimsy paper does, I don't know. I held up a piece of 20# bond myself and it didn't seem to move as much but it was the fingers I thought I noticed first. Any comments or should I just take the foil hat off now?

(15,290 posts)One of my parents had that, benign essential tremor. But I think it was probably just the some nervousness caused by the uniqueness of the situation.

(29,728 posts)I instantly thought of ALS which often starts with just a slight tremor and then it progresses into a horrifying disease. I hope that's just my morbid mind.

(1 post)As doctors like to say about diagnoses: when you hear hoof beats in the night, you should first presume it's horses and not zebras.
I'd vote for an essential tremor rather than going immediately to ALS.

If its medical, lots of older folks have tremors and are fine.

Whenever a noob claims to be "amazed" to find something at DU, (particularly something which was not even expressed), my antenna starts to tingle.

I cannot do anything about parts of you that "tingle". Have you considered consulting a neurologist?

(1,822 posts)Didnt they have to redo it later? I remember some right wingnut people saying he wasnt really president because of how it was worded not even realizing they did correct it. The guy is probably a nervous wreck on a big stage.

The harsh media spotlight is rarely turned directly on them.
When it turns in their direction, especially for something as historic as this, it probably makes them cherish their privacy even more.

I'm certainly no fan of Chief Justice Roberts but sometimes the simplest answer is the best until it's been proven that it's something truly serious we need to be concerned about.

US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts was hospitalized July 30 after reportedly having a seizure. Press reports state he also had a seizure 14 years ago. Everyone at epilepsy.com and its parent organization, The Epilepsy Therapy Project , would like to wish Chief Justice Roberts a speedy recovery.
While further details about Chief Justice Roberts have not been made public, the news report has raised many questions about types of seizures and their relationship to epilepsy. A seizure is a sudden excessive discharge of nervous-system electrical activity that usually causes a change in behavior. This surge of electrical activity in the brain usually affects how a person feels or acts for a short time. Seizures are not a disease in themselves. Instead, they are a symptom of many different disorders that can affect the brain. Some seizures are barely noticeable, while others are totally disabling.
