Peter Paul Strzok II (/strʌk/, like struck; born March 7, 1970)[1] is a former United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent.[2][3][4] Strzok was the Chief of the Counterespionage Section and led the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a personal email server.[5][4][6]

(7,435 posts)We have representatives who can speak for their constituents. In a republic, a rep's constituents rely on the representative to know things that the general population doesn't know, or doesn't want to know, all with the assumption that the rep will take care that they will act in a way that reflects the position of his/her constituents.
In a pure democracy, it's essential for the entire population to know about all issues and, through direct voting, approve or disapprove of actions, policies, or laws. We don't have a pure democracy. Ideally, we would all be as informed as top government officials. But we aren't, and that's why we have representatives.

It's sure exposing a large part of this country I didn't know existed. Horrified to learn it exists, but I suppose not knowing is worse in the long run. I sure AF hope some good comes of this and we put in the proper measures to keep most of this shit from happening again in the future. I'm not naive enough to think we can fix all of it for perpetuity. But as Obama said, "better is good."

(28,349 posts)briefly mentioned Rosenstein. He essentially said that it was well known that Rosenstein was a capable guy doing his job well, but Rosenstein doesn't do anything unless his ass is covered.
Wish I could remember the when, where, why of this interview. But that is the only statement he made that stuck with me all these years. I guess it was a relatable comment because during my own career I've had colleagues who were just like that. I'm sure we all have.

With the express understanding that it would not violate the Privacy Act and that the text messages would become public by the next day in any event, I authorized [Justices Office of Public Affairs] to disclose to the news media the text messages that were being disclosed to Congressional committees, Rosenstein wrote in a five-page statement signed Friday.
Rosenstein, who stepped down from his position as Justices No. 2 official last May, said in his new submission that his aides initially suggested he might want to delay sending the texts to Congress until after his House testimony. But the veteran prosecutor said he concluded it would be inappropriate to hold them back, even briefly, for that reason.
Rosenstein also said he decided to give the messages to the media before his testimony because of concerns that they would be cherrypicked in a manner that could be detrimental to the Justice Department, as well as Strzok and Page.
While Rosenstein said the disclosure to the media was aimed at putting the messages in context, Strzok and Page have noted that the set of fewer than 400 texts sent to the Hill and shared with reporters that night was just a tiny fraction of the tens of thousands of messages the pair exchanged on work topics as well as personal matters.
Justice officials say that selection was done by the Office of Inspector General, which tracked down the messages after FBI officials initially said they had been deleted. Some of the messages released in December 2017 showed Strzok and Page taking verbal shots at politicians and public figures of various stripes including Attorney General Eric Holder, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) and Gov. Martin OMalley (D-Md.)
