My Response to the GOP's Response ...

“The articles of impeachment submitted by House Democrats are a dangerous attack on the right of the American people to freely choose their president. This is a brazen and unlawful attempt to overturn the results of the 2016 election and interfere with the 2020 election, now just months away.”

The American people ‘chose their president’ in 2016, an election which – unfortunately – cannot be ‘overturned’. Were that possible, it would mean that Trump’s every action would automatically be overturned as well; every appointment, every piece of legislation he signed-off on, et cetera.

If you want to talk about people overturning the results of the 2016 election, you need look no further than the electoral college, which gave the presidency to Trump despite the fact that the American people chose Hillary Clinton by a wide margin.

There is nothing “unlawful” about impeaching a president who has been shown to be unfit for office, which is why the framers included this remedy in the Constitution. In addition to being unfit, Trump has also broken the law repeatedly, has enriched himself at the taxpayers’ expense, and has openly colluded with our nation’s enemies.

Impeachment doesn’t overturn an election. It is the means by which the American people can remove a lying, thieving, traitor from the office to which he was elected – after he has been proven to be a lying, thieving, traitor – and Trump has proven himself to be exactly that, and more.

I find it laughable that Republicans are claiming that Democrats are trying to “interfere with the 2020 election”. Perhaps you missed the fact that Trump held back military aid from our ally, Ukraine, in hopes of interfering in that election by having them announce an investigation into his political rival, VP Joe Biden. Maybe you should pay closer attention to what’s been in the news, almost 24/7, for months now – because you can be damned sure the voters are.

Impeachment and removal from office isn’t a matter of you were never elected – it’s a matter of you were elected – and now you’re fuckin’ fired! – a concept even your dumbass pResident can comprehend, if you explain it in very simple terms that even a brain-dead Dotard can understand.

The only reason a blatantly corrupt con-man like Donald Trump is still in office is because the entire Republican party is every bit as corrupt as he is.

Impeachment has nothing whatsoever to do with elections.

...in large part as a check on the power of the current administration.

The House is simply doing the job they were elected to do as per the Constitution. Hopefully, the Senate will do the same.

How can people fall for this ploy over and over and over and over.
Whenever Trump is caught doing something wrong he always... ALWAYS... blames the people that caught him of the same crime. It's a trick he learned from Roy Cohn and should be seen as simply an admission of the crime on his part.
It's so obvious and transparent that I am constantly scratching my head as to why everyone doesn't see this.
People always are shocked and deny it instead of exposing it as a automatic, mechanical technique he uses without fail.

Do they realize they are saying the Constitution of the United States is somehow "unlawful"? How do they think that something spelled out in the Constitution is unlawful? Oh, wait, the Constitution doesn't say that only Republicans can run the country and that anything that any other Political Party wants is criminal. Yeah, that's it. IOKIYAAR.

Then Hillary Clinton would be sworn in as President. Since that would not happen, nothing is being overturned.

because it would be seen as overturning the results of the previous election.

If that argument wins the day in the Senate, it will be a license for a president to act as corruptly as he wants, knowing he can not be removed via impeachment. God help us if the Repugs acquit Trump. He will see it as complete exoneration, and via Barr he will begin systematic retribution against all of his "enemies," real or imaginary.

We elect presidents, we don’t create gods. If the man isn’t up to the job, we impeach the man and preserve the office. It’s crazy to do otherwise!

Anyone who wants to try an float this silly "Reverse the election" argument in front of anything but drooling cult members should have to answer that.
