Josh Marshall hits the nail on the head: https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/no-begging-or-pleading-its-senate-republicans-who-are-on-trial
Ive already seen a number of statements from Senate Democrats hoping that Republican moderates will force McConnell to backtrack. This is all wrong, not least because it prospectively credits the good faith of these supposed moderates who are in fact operating as McConnells foot soldiers in shutting the trial down. In other words, this is vouching for the good faith and good intentions of senators who deserve to be driven from office in November. Start making the case against them right now. If any of them think they are unfairly accused the solution is ready at hand.
For the Democrats making these pleas it demonstrates a painful and demoralizing passivity. In no part of life should we helplessly beg for things we can have no power to effect or gain.
There are half a dozen Republican senators in competitive races. They deserve to be held to account for this abdication of duty. If a guilty defendant goes on the stand and basically shows they are guilty that is not a bad thing. Senate Republicans are on trial and here they are basically testifying against themselves. They worked with Trump and McConnell to sabotage the trial.

(23,179 posts)& "stop the coverup";"why do they fear the truth" & what are they trying to hide by having hearings at 1am? Wish I was rich, I'd fund them, but no, just an average working class retired person here who is comfortable due to me and hubbie working our asses off for decades, but not much income these days & health issues to drain what I do have.
Think these ads could be effective at getting some pressure on some of these asshats in purple states & to create any pressure on MoscowMitch. Although, not sure about KY, but think we should include them in this situation. Damn, where is Soros?

(15,290 posts)run ads. Both know how to target republican voters, too. Wilson's group is "The Lincoln Project" and Kristol's is "Republicans for the Rule of Law". I'm sure both are taking donations, of course in addition to Dem and other liberal and progressive groups.
I would just add that it's important to let whoever your senators are know that you will be watching and holding him or her accountable for enabling Trump. I've called Toomey a few times over the last several days letting him know this. He's not up until 2022, but he's always got his finger in the wind to see which way it's blowing.

(23,179 posts)Just had to get an anti voice to them, even if not heard.

(56,829 posts)those calls can make a difference - senators and reps being flooded with calls and emails helped save the ACA

(15,290 posts)Toomey's staff refuses to answer the phone at ANY of his offices, but I'm sure they're listening to the messages left for them.
Remember senators have to run statewide. There aren't any safely gerrymandered districts where they can ignore their minority constituents.
