Its about time.
The British sci-fi character Doctor Who will be played by a black actor for the first time in the popular BBC shows 57-year history.
On Sunday, Jo Martin became only the second woman to play the time-travelling scientist, who has been portrayed by a dozen men and only one other female on the series.
Martins character, Ruth, was introduced to viewers on the programs most recent episode, but it wasnt revealed then that she will be the latest iteration of the adventurous doctor, who regenerates when its body is mortally compromised.

(2,474 posts)1. Good for her.
I hope she doesn't face the same sexist backlash that Jodie Whittaker did.

the theory is, that she pre dates the first doctor(William Hartnell) or she could be from a alternate universe. not to take that away, but it makes me damn proud that a person of color is playing the doctor!

She is Doctor 2.5 because only an appearance change was triggered, not necessarily a regeneration.
Her TARDIS console room was a total throwback to early days of the show.
