'Wants to appease the left': GOP senator blasts Mitt Romney

Sen. Kelly Loeffler blasted Sen. Mitt Romney after he signaled being open to calling witnesses in President Trump's Senate impeachment trial, tweeting that Romney "wants to appease the left."

"After 2 weeks, it's clear that Democrats have no case for impeachment. Sadly, my colleague @SenatorRomney wants to appease the left by calling witnesses who will slander the @realDonaldTrump during their 15 minutes of fame," the Georgia Republican tweeted Monday. "The circus is over. It's time to move on!"

Loeffler's comments came after Romney expressed willingness to support Democratic calls for former national security adviser John Bolton to testify in the trial. Romney told reporters over the weekend, "I think it's very likely I'll be in favor of witnesses, but I haven't made a decision finally yet, and I won't until the testimony is completed."

Reports on Sunday revealed that Bolton's upcoming book claims that Trump threatened to withhold foreign aid to Ukraine unless the country promised to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden. The revelation sparked House impeachment managers to renew their calls for Bolton to testify before the Senate.
