(86,867 posts)is a real possibility since it's pretty much all sand.
My farming partner and his wife live there, I'll have to text them and see what's up. One spends their days on Fisher Is. so that could be a problem.
They are sending people home in downtown Miami

(14,961 posts)He said, it felt a little like the sonic boom from when a shuttle would land. I heard on the news, folks up in Melbourne and Titusville felt it, I'm not sure how many.

(24,654 posts)Depends on what you're doing at the time. I've been known not to bat and eye while the Thunderbirds roar past overhead.
Experienced an earthquake in Massachusetts that I would describe exactly as your son did this one.

(24,654 posts)And two that didn't. One probably because I was half-asleep and it felt like a gentle roll and the other because it was just that sonic boom and I didn't know what it was until I saw news reports.
Middle of the day with shaking buildings? That's frightening stuff!

(14,961 posts)I imagine it's just what you get used to. I'm terrified of earthquakes and fire, but I grew up on the beach. I'm not really afraid of drowning.(with the exception of tsunamis, they are terrifying)

I imagine there was a reason for evacuating the high rises.
There was one with epicenter 200 miles away in Texas. (magnitude 5.7)
It happened during church.
Hubby noticed it. Conversation goes like this:
Hubby: "Did you see the chandeliers move?"
Me: "No"
Hubby: "I bet there was an earthquake".
After church:
Hubby to Priest, "Did you notice the chandeliers moving?"
Priest: "Yes"
At home:
News: "Earthquake tonight...."
Hubby: "I told you so".
Here is video from Miami
ETA: All sorts of journalists are asking permission to use this video! If it was much worse, they would would have other footage.
