The case for registering firearms.

So many worry that the gubmint will come and get your guns.

Thirty eight years ago my 1911 Series 70 was stolen. Yesterday I regained possession from the Sheriff's Dept.

Without registration this would never have happened. All because I filed a report on bank fraud and they got my new contact info.

Welcome home!

I even got 40 rounds and my original soft case back along with a holster.

I never replaced it and it is my only firearm.

Register them! You never know.

We’ve been through this before. Too many so-called “responsible gun owners,” aren’t responsible.

At the very least, guns should be registered, notwithstanding the whining.

Anything can be stolen with enough time. Thieves have sawed out floors and rolled safes out of houses or cut them open with cutting wheels.

I own several, and I've never stroked one of them.

The Golden State Killer stole someone's firearm and later used it in murders.

When I was in the military I always had to have my weapon within arms reach or secured in an arms room and people are arguing against the protection of safes. It scares me this many people have guns.

Contact any safe manufacturer, all state they can be defeated with enough time. The purpose of a safe is to make it so difficult a thief gives up trying to steal the contents.

Though if being used to murder someone is the concern, most tools are just as dangerous. An ax in the wrong hands can be very deadly. We don't lock axes up because they are cheap and common. Guns are locked up because they are expensive and a priority theft target.

Other than limiting magazine capacities and removing assault weapons from the market, it's a quixotic quest. And it distracts from issues that should matter more like healthcare, which saves far more lives.

Licensing the owner also... Just like a car.. License and register.... Israel which has more of a need for people to own and carry firearms has very strict laws. License, register and yearly proof of continued training. You also have to bring your firearm into a military or police department to have the serial # verified often... Not a bad system. With such deadly force comes great responsibility and need for more than just two hands to point and shoot. YMMV

You got it back because you filed a police report and the serial number was entered into NiCs. It was recovered during the investigation of a crime and checked against the FBI. Registration had nothing to do with it.

It was only the bank fraud complaint which gave them my info.

They did not get it off my DMV.

Back in 1982 my roommate had a party and it got gone. As I said, I only had the one pistol.

I should have had a safe? I didn't have ammo and never fired it. I got out if the Marines and bought it a few years later.

Is there an issue with a Democrat owning ONE pistol? Why?
