General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI live where Lamar Alexander grew up
and where his exclusive closed community mountain home is now.
He had actually done some good things in his past job. There were those of us who asked him to realize he could redeem his legacy in the Senate by this vote. We were fools to even think he had a shred of decency in him
I am sure I will not run into him in a restaurant (I cannot pay to eat at Blackberry Farm, you can Google it) where his home is, and doubt I will see him at the grocery store or movie theater. But if I did, I would call him the Trump Whore that he is and tell him that there are a portion of the citizens here who will never forgive him.

(15,557 posts)can we have it on film please?
You can always leave him a message at his office and say exactly what you said here. We cannot allow them to make us voiceless and defeated.

(15,665 posts)and hope that by some odd good fortune you do run into him.
What strikes me is: his exclusive closed community mountain home. These people are and want to be exclusive. And when you get to the bottom of it, they want to exclude the run of the mill. And worse, we tolerate it,

the total of closed communities is directly proportional to the total of prison "communities"

(3,496 posts)Make him sorry for the decision he made and see no difference in trump even if he had voted yes.

(17,994 posts)Is Lamar in Howard Bakers old seat? I read he was a protege of him.

(6,929 posts)the last good Republican from TN, but I will. There have been many posts and questions toward Lamar about how Baker is spinning in his grave over this. Lamar clearly does not care. His parents were local public school leaders, I wrote him about DeVos before she was confirmed. He voted for her.

(17,994 posts)Lamar is just as dishonorable as the rest.
My Tennessee In Laws were all proud Democrats. They admired FDR and witnessed what the TVA stood for. They lived on the big Tennessee.

(6,929 posts)the person who succeeded Baker immediately was .....wait for it....Al Gore, jr. His dad was a Senator earlier.
Lamar actually followed Fred Thompson who was a better actor than Senator.
There is a major street here named Lamar Alexander Parkway (the hospital where I worked was on it). There are people thinking about defacing the signs since they know there is no hope to change it. It is a major route to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the well known area Cades Cove.

(17,994 posts)I remember Fred Thompson. He could only hack one term. Then went back to selling reverse mortgages to vulnerable old people.. now Tom Sellick is doing the same. I gag every time I hear Tom say, Trust me!

On edit: I posted before I read your post above.

(6,929 posts)the name will not change. I want to put a sign at West Miller's Cove Rd that says "Beware, Trump Whores nearby", but I won't.

(6,217 posts)His ̶r̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶a̶l̶ irrational reasoning that because he knows tRump is guilty from the presented evidence then, the other Senators should also know. What about those Senators who might be swayed by hearing Bolton's first-hand account.
He not only leaves a guilty man in the White House BUT he denies additional evidence for those who might have needed it.
He is retiring and has nothing to lose. No re-election campaign to worry about. A long career to fall back on.
YET! with the nothing to lose he ends his career by ignoring his oath to protect the Constitution.
IMO Lamar Alexander is worse than a coward he is an active co-conspirator with the tRump traitors.

"Do the right thing, vote for witnesses. Vote to convict. You were a good governor and, I once thought, a man of integrity. Show that you still are or you obit will read: "Lamar Alexander, who sided with trump..."
Is that how you want to be remembered? Do you think that is that how your children and grandchildren want you remembered?"
He destroyed his entire legacy in one vote.

(25,405 posts)Lamar's sister was married to Bill Carl. I met Lamar a few times when he would visit them in Dallas. Lamar seemed less political than his brother-in-law, the preacherman. But that was quarter century ago. He wouldn't remember me.
BTW: After Bush-II got "elected," Alexander was appointed to the Bush cabinet as Secretary of Education. Bill Carl then started spending some time in D.C. visiting the Alexander's. The Rev. Carl loved to brag - from the pulpit - about playing tennis at the Bush White House. That totally turned me off -
