(33,484 posts)They appear to worship at the feet of the billionaire bosses they helped create with the looting of America. There are sociopathic billionaires and multi-millionaires who consider government an obstacle to be removed. The only parts of government they want are those which protect them and provide services they need to continue looting in comfort, and they expect those parts to be paid for mostly by everyone else.

1. Should witnesses be called before the Senate?

(713 posts)This is not a real trial. It is a rigged Republican Kangaroo Court. They are blocking Witnesses and Evidence. No Witnesses, No Evidence, then it is not a Trial. Trump will not be exonerated, because there was no trial, no matter how the Republicans vote.
The GOP is just part of covering up Trumps illegal and impeachable actions. He Abused his Power, he and his people covered it up and Obstructed Congress. These Republican Senators who vote to end the Trial without Witnesses and Evidence will go down in History as people who sided with Corruption over Justice, and Politics over Country.

Schiff points out that Judge Jackson has already ruled re Executive powers - "We don't have kings here" and advisors are not immune from process. Congress does have power to subpoena and power to compel, because without that power Congress cannot truly legislate.
eta Bolton cannot at this point explain why he doesn't testify vs 'saving it for the book.' Should ask Bolton about it in person, to find out why he is willing to go before the Senate but not the House.
He is knocking it out of the park.

(57,664 posts)For starters, the Founders would be confused by the words "phone records" and "Republican."
More than that, they'd be "aghast" that Congress -- which they placed in Article I for a reason -- rolled over for a president who had so clearly abused the powers of his office.

Our Founders would be aghast if they knew Adam Schiff released private phone records of a journalist and the top Republican on his committee.

(129,662 posts)because normally, the chamber is almost empty. So when there is Senate business that needs to be done, they do a roll call to basically call Senators back (which can take who knows how long until the leader decides they have a quorum).

Apparently there is an expectation that each Senator would have up to 15 minutes for remarks which would potentially mean 25 more hours of final "debate" before the vote to convict or acquit - and the timing of that into the weekend and/or through to possible Wednesday. The issue is whether to go late tonight and into tomorrow or end now and start that tomorrow...etc.

Because of differences in procedure between the two bodies, quorum calls in the House are fairly rare, but they are quite common in the Senate."

(33,484 posts)We know they don't have any self-restraint in breaking rules.
