12. The number of deaths will not be so easily hidden, or for as long, as the number of active cases.

The Gruesome Old Perverts will try it, though.

How is this perspective NOT horrifying enough to convince EVERYONE to do everything they can to prevent the spread??

Ironically, when looking at FB profiles of OPEN IT UP I NEED A HAIRCUT nitwits, the vast majority also have at least one, and usually more, sappy 9/11 WTC "NEVER FORGET" graphics posted.

Cognitive dissonance and pure denial.

They reset to zero at Greenwich Mean Time, but still that is quite a discrepancy.

8. That number comes from WHO,

but it doesn't match the most up to date data on the standard reporting sites.

According to worldometers: Today's deaths - 1691. Yesterday's deaths - 1897.

The CNBC report draws from a WHO report that appears to be several days behind on data.

Scrolling through the WHO report, even though the date stamp is May 1, the number of total deaths and total cases corresponds most closely to roughly April 27/28.

In that same report, for example, the total number of deaths is 55,357 - there were 56, 795 according to worldometers on 4/27. On May 1 we were around 65,753 deaths.

In the WHO report the total number of cases on "May 1" were 1,035,353. We hit 1,035,765 deaths on April 28, according to Worldometers.
