... Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar had tweeted Friday that three rapid-testing machines and 1,000 tests were being sent for the Senate to use next week.
Trump also tweeted that tremendous testing capacity is available for senators returning on Monday, and for the House.
But Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate leader Mitch McConnell said Saturday in a statement that they want the equipment to go to front-line facilities instead ...

I'll guess she got him over a barrel:
Brother Mitch, the House is refusing these tests, since they would mean so much more to our front line defenders. Won't you and the Senate join us?
"Uh ... I ... um ... eh ... Why sure, Sister Nancy ..."
You are such an inspiration to us all! You may rest assured, Brother Mitch, that while the Senate is here in DC, working on your priorities, our Members will be carefully hearing about what average Americans are experiencing back home. Please carry on!

(25,288 posts)to put pressure on the Governor's out in the States to re-open and lessen the stay-at-home orders. You know he's got to get the economy going again if he wants to be re-elected. Realistically - it's probably the only thing he would have to his benefit to run on - if things open up there is some sort of recovery before November.
Mitch probably told him we ain't coming back to D.C. unless you assure us that we can be tested and have masks and maybe even gloves. Mitch probably said I'm not interested in being a kamikaze and putting my life and the lives of the other Repug Senators in peril because you want to be re-elected.
Trump then probably acquiesced and assured Mitch that I'll have tremendous testing capacity is available for senators returning on Monday, and for the House.
With Pelosi refusing this testing equipment - and sending it to the front lines - it really puts Mitch in a very uncomfortable position. He has to go along with Pelosi and the House or otherwise look like the selfish monster he is.
I would like to be a fly on the wall when Mitch has that call with the Repug Senators and tells them they have to come back upon orders from Trump - but Trump promises us some testing equipment that Pelosi pressured me into letting the equipment go to the front lines for the American People to be tested. So we're kinda flying blindly here. Anyway guys - Trump told the American Peopel at one of his Covid Conferences that there were all kinds of tests available - and he didn't keep his promise. So I really doubt that we would have that tremendous testing capacity is available for us on Monday.
I wonder if all of them will show up on Monday or if some will still remain in their homes in their Home State.
