DNC Chair Tom Perez compares Biden sexual assault allegation to 'Hillary emails'

Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez addressed the accusation of sexual assault against the party's presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden, comparing the controversy to another that dogged the party's 2016 candidate Hillary Clinton, which some in the party believe contributed to her defeat in that year's election.

"This is like the Hillary emails, because there was nothing there," Perez told ABC's "This Week" co-anchor Martha Raddatz, referring to the former secretary of state's criticized use of a private email server as he addressed an allegation of sexual assault from Tara Reade, a former staffer who served in Biden’s Washington Senate office for a brief period in 1993. Biden has denied the assault occurred.

In defending the former vice president, Perez cited the "exhaustive" review of Biden conducted by the 2008 Barack Obama presidential campaign, which the party chair said did not uncover such an accusation or else the senator from Delaware would not have been selected to join that year's ticket.

I think ignoring it forward is a good choice. Let's not keep her dead story alive on a ventilator.

Everytime a Democrat gives an interview, the media brings this up. It’s getting ridiculous

Is providing talking points and their team staying on message. And if that doesn’t work they just use the “liberal” media or deep state excuses. And then the “liberal” media just moves on.....But the “liberal” media continues to bring up the issue when it comes y to Democrats.

In both cases, all official records are entirely positive and both go to the core of these two decent men who have lived very public lives with no scandal. Another similarity is that the charges challenge strengths of the Democratic candidate that correspond to major deficits of their opponent. Biden is a decent moral man and many Trump supporters know he isn't. Kerry is a war hero and when he returned his clarion moral bravery matched his war time physical bravery in Vietnam. Even Bush's supporters knew that he avoided the war with a lackluster or worse time in the National Guard.

Another reason they are similar is many on our side argued that the Republicans needed to defend their guy on the same issue. They did not because their flaw was essentially baked in.

Another similarity is that just as the men actually on Kerry's swiftboat were 100 percent behind him, praising his leadership, character and skill, the people in Biden's office over the decades are behind him with the exception of this troubled woman who was employed for 9 months. That this was around the time the Senate acted on charges against others makes her changing story of trying to report an assault, then a weaker accusation, then a statement that she was uncomfortable harder to believe.

I liked David Axlerod's strong statement that none of this surfaced during getting and if it had, Obama would have picked someone else. Consider also that at least three people close to Obama as he made that choice. Much of Obama's senate staff came from Tom Daschle's office and Duck Durbin and John Kerry were early endorsers. If Biden had problems in this area, it is hard to believe in the small club the Senate is that it would not have been known and flagged by one of them.

We see how dishonest the email outrage was by the lack of similar outrage Trump people doing the same or worse. Using a private server and not insuring the State Department had the emails when she left was not good practice, but some of her predecessors did not handle email much better.
