Hi, neighbors! I want to be your State Senator, and Ill tell you why.
By trade, Im a civil engineer. I started a successful business in my basement over two decades ago, which is now a flourishing enterprise with 15 employees. Our work has created opportunities for veterans, minorities, and people wishing to change careers. I understand the importance of government-supported infrastructure funding, and my company has worked successfully with townships, cities, counties, and the state to build publicly-funded roads, bridges, and buildings. We need an engineer like me at the Capitol who can educate fellow legislators about infrastructure issues.
Im also a teacher. For over 20 years, Ive taught at the University of MinnesotaTwin Cities and local technical colleges, and have created and taught classes to maintenance workers, engineers, tradespeople, and managers. Many of my older students take my classes to gain knowledge and skills that enable them to move up and expand their abilities and roles within their current jobs. Ive developed workforce training that aims to provide jobs for minorities and allow contractors to meet the female- and minority-participation goals the federal government sets for public work. Each of these experiences gives me insight into changes around education, workforce development, and post-secondary training that I will work to effect as a Senator.
Im a wife, a mother, a stepmom, and a grandma, and I have worked hard to balance a loving home and family with the demands of business, teaching, and my extensive community networks. As a collaborator and teacher at heart, I know that everyones perspectives should be represented and challenges addressed, and I will work diligently to ensure a voice for all people in all areas especially those who currently have no voice and little power in our government.
I truly believe now is the time for me to run for State Senate. Winning the District 44 seat could flip the Senate to a DFL majority, which will create a Senate that will engage in serious, substantive work to address the threats of gun violence and climate change, work on infrastructure and transportation issues, encourage renewable energy, serve the healthcare needs of every person in this state, and much more.
I am a bridge builder (both literally and figuratively!), an employer of a diverse workforce, and a creative problem solver. I know the value of teamwork. I will bring these decades of experience to the Capitol as I represent you in Senate District 44.
