(4,533 posts)I knew a lawyer who worked on a lawsuit related to deaths on a runway. There were mostly Turks, Americans and Japanese on board who died. The settlement, this was in seventies I think, was $100,000 per Turk, $1 million per American, $10 million per Japanese. I think those are the amounts she told me were paid by the Airline. She told me that in Japan there are closer family ties so more relatives are entitled to compensation. Grand parents get paid there but not in the US. This conversation was in a bar 40 years ago so I cant be sure my memory is accurate. But I am pretty certain there were big differences based on nationality and I am pretty sure Japanese got much more than Americans.
And we do price deaths. The highway department will install a guard rail based on cost per expected life saved. If I recall correctly a guard rail will be installed if the cost is less than $7.5 million dollars per expected life saved, if I remember correctly. Something like that.

Thier lives seem to exist to hurt all of us who can feel empathy and compassion. I'm out of fucks to give for republicans and ogliarches.
At some point a person can be so abusive evil and toxic you have to stop caring about them and stop looking for the humanity in them when they never had it to begin with.
