Group aligned with Don Jr. reportedly buying stake in OAN: 'Trump is really aiming to take down Fox'

The redoubtable Gabriel Sherman has another dispatch from the Phantasmagorical Land of Cray-Cray. It seems Fox News is not nearly obsequious enough for Donald John Trump, so he’s itching to cut them off at the very knees they’ve been shamelessly bending for the past five years.

Trump’s view that Fox is insufficiently loyal has motivated him to look for a more reliable media partner. On April 26, he tweeted: “The people who are watching @FoxNews, in record numbers (thank you President Trump), are angry. They want an alternative now. So do I!”

Trump now is on the verge of having that alternative. According to sources, an investor group aligned with his son Don Jr. and the Dallas-based Hicks family has acquired a major stake in One America News Network, the fledgling conservative cable-news channel that features hosts like Jack Posobiec, a chief promoter of the Pizzagate conspiracy. “[RNC co-chair] Tommy Hicks and Don Jr. have been looking to buy a station for Trump TV,” said one source briefed on the talks. “This is all about building a Fox competitor. Trump is really aiming to take down Fox,” the person briefed on the deal told me.

You see, simply everything is fake news — except for that channel that asks Trump tough, probing questions like whether he thinks the term “Chinese food” is racist. Hey, someone has to speak truth to power. That’s exactly the kind of tenacious, unflinching coverage Donald Trump respects.

A dictator does have to have some form of state run media and so, this is to be expected. If he gets another term, he can make it the mandatory news outlet

One America News Network, huh? That's their first big lie. It would be less than a third, if anything. So far, it makes Fux Noise look moderate. It's just Pravda in drag.

to get an audience from. The outright crazies that go to OANN are already theirs. The rest of Faux viewers are habituated and won't willingly leave their leggy blondes and bomb-throwing "anchors". Sounds like a losing business proposition to me - right up Trump's alley.

Maybe he'll be okay with that, but I think he's gonna jones bad. For all his hating on the "fake news" he loves when they show up and ask him "nasty questions" and he can be a dick to them.

My rwnj relatives listen to OAN. The shit they believe is jaw dropping. I'm embarrassed for them that they are so ignorant and gullible.

Saw the series on "the Loudest Voice" on Netflix, Roger was despicable but a genus at fake news he made Fox News. I hate him but also was impressed with what he got away with.

suck ups are going to be sorry, if they aren't already for their lack of journalistic ethics after Trump is gone and if Fox loses more viewers. I remember Megan Kelly's failed attempts.

So if Faux retaliates by dissing Chump at every opportunity, what happens to the Faux loyalist commentators (Ingraham, Carlson, et al)? Do they "adjust" their tone? or do they hightail it on over to OAN?

Honestly, I think it would be hilarious to see all the Fauxers coming out against their former messiah, and - boy - would that chap Chump's ass.

Fox (6% outright, and probably more through other names & associations). Be careful for what you wish for, mr. trump. You might get it. You've had a free tv campaign ad the whole time from Fox. They can make you, and they can break you.
