A lot of you Evangelicals, along with other faux Christians, are looking forward to The Rapture, and the idea that the End Times will soon be upon us.
Now, as I understand the concept, this will mark the second coming of Jesus Christ a man some of you might vaguely remember but clearly dont remember well. So let me remind you who he was.
Jesuss entire life on earth was devoted to teaching his followers to care for the sick, to shelter the homeless, and to feed the hungry. He also admonished them to speak the truth, to welcome the stranger, and to act as their brothers keeper.
That being said, it is unlikely that that Jesus Christ will be inviting liars to be part of the fast track to paradise. In other words, there wont be many GOP politicians going anywhere, anytime soon.
People who put innocent children in cages, take food stamps away from the hungry, and criminalize homelessness are also on the wrong side of The Nazarenes Ultimate Naughty/Nice Ledger along with those who have wholeheartedly supported such actions.
Jesus was pretty clear about treating others as we would want to be treated so Im not seeing bigots and racists being welcome to climb that Stairway to Heaven. In fact, I would imagine theyll be kicked in the ass if they try. Jesus is a pretty calm, cool and collected guy but hes been known to get really cranky when provoked. (Google Thrown out of the Temple Incident)
Just a guess here, but I just cant picture Jesus giving a pass to people who think mocking a disabled man is laugh-worthy any more than I can see him hugging people who work to take benefits away from the disabled who need them to survive.
Admittedly, Ive never met the guy but from what Ive read, I just dont see Jesus looking the other way when it comes to the hypocrites who pretend to follow Him, while instead following a man who preaches the exact opposite of what The Nazarene taught.
As for the people who have voted for, supported, and enabled a pResident and a party that consistently does the opposite of what Christ instructed his followers to do, I have to be honest Im not liking their chances of being on the Rapture VIP list.
If The Rapture actually happened, it would be highly entertaining to watch Trump holding a press conference to explain how he was chosen by God to be left behind. Hed be flanked by all of those left-behind religious leaders who tried to convince their flocks that things like feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and caring for the sick were merely the ravings of a madman who lived over 2,000 years ago long before the True Orange Messiah was elected to undo those crazy ideas that dont put money in anyones pockets, power in any corrupt cronys hands, or any pussy within grabbing reach.
If you believe that God is all-knowing and all-seeing, youve also got to believe that he knows whats in your heart. He knows if youre a racist, a bigot, a misogynist, a liar, a cheat, a selfish immoral traitor and he knows whether you voted for one because he represents what you really believe in.
Truth be told, from what Ive seen of the Rapture Wannabees, I doubt that a single one of them qualify for consideration.
I dont personally believe in the Rapture but I almost wish I did. I could at least look forward to watching Jesus kicking some seriously deserving ass.

(12,712 posts)That covered all bases.
Actually Rapture Theology is rather new and more of a contemporary cult of dubious interpretations and overlays and has been called a false doctrine. It is an interesting subject to look up.
The rapture was popularized in the 1970s by Hal Lindseys writings (The Late Great Planet Earth, etc.) and more recently by Jim Jenkins and Tim LaHaye in their Left Behind fictional books and films. But where did the idea of the rapture originate?
<snip>
There were also amillennialists in Darbys day. He labored to correct both false teachings. Darby believed, rightly, that Jesus Christ would return to earth to establish and rule over the Kingdom of God. Darby was a premillennialist.
But in his zeal for countering error, he added anotherthe rapture theory. He believed he understood a new truth, an idea that had not been taught in the history of Christendom. While he was most likely sincere, sincerity alone does not make one right.

As for them, harken back to the Twilight Zone episode, To Serve Man. Have at it believers.

Hi pwb. For a true Bible believer, it is stated, "Salvation is a gift...so no man can boast". Eternal life cannot b earned.

(6,940 posts)was at best a mythology designed to communicate larger truths - because, after all, the only end-of-the-world that should matter to you is your own (death).
But Trump is making me rethink that some. Not seriously ... but have you noticed there's a False Prophet in that story too? Franklin Graham? Mitch McConnell? William Barr?

But it's so true, and so poignant, they would refuse to print it. Which is fortunate for the author because Democrats don't need the newest Salmon Rushdie. They just need to get to the polls in November!

(88 posts)Just to clarify, The Biblical passage referencing the rapture is Thessalonians 4:13-18 "But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the archangel's call and with the sound of the trumpet of God.
AND THE DEAD IN CHRIST WILL RISE FIRST;THEN WE WHO ARE ALIVE, WHO ARE LEFT, SHALL BE CAUGHT UP TOGETHER WITH THEM IN THE CLOUDS TO MEET THE LORD IN THE AIR;AND SO WE SHALL ALWAYS BE WITH THE LORD. Therefore comfort one another with these words. The highlighted sentences are the revelant ones. {revised standard version catholic edition}

(35 posts)NancyGreggs, everything u say is true. But the GOP joker's & hatefilled magats are hypocrites & Pharisees. They are not Christians. The Lord will say to them, "I never knew you". I'm as angry & appalled at them as any sane person with a heart can be. I do hope they burn in hell. What they have done to those children & the constant lying should b enough to get the into the deepest end of the lake of fire!!!
