Having to face a hard truth.

I live in traitor nunes district, in the burbs. The schools are amazing, but the people...
The city council voted to open the city a week ago, since that pronouncement I have been reading the conversations of my neighbors and surrounding neighborhoods on the Nextdoor AP.
I know this place is very red, I know what the support of republican policy implies intrinsically with these people but wow, it is difficult to express how I’m feeling about it right now. The vile comments and blatant disregard for facts and science is living in my fucking neighborhood. I mean, I knew they were here all along. They re-elected Nunes after he leaked committee intel to dump. But, in my daily hectic life, I have never stopped to contemplate about the fact that my neighbors are supportive of fascism and sacrificing people. Like REALLY supportive. I’m shocked they’re bold enough to post these things on a neighborhood AP that was meant to help folks.

I don't know how I would react around people like that.

Best of luck!

Been considering dying my hair some bright color too.

My situation is different, because poverty traps me here, but I know the feeling.

I feel for you. I have always known neighbors AND family are that way. My own family had me raped for being gay back in the early 90s. They have that mentality that people do not matter. Money does. Appearance does. They do things specifically to make themselves look like great people, but they are far from it. The things I know could land several of them in prison for life.

One would think that because I have known for a while that mentality surrounds me, that I could offer you anything but sympathy. I wish I had advice for you, but I don't. I only have sympathy, because I know what it feels like to wake up to a fact like that. Just don't let it destroy you inside. For me, to a degree, it has done just that. How to avoid that? I don't know. Maybe you can find better support than I ever could. I couldn't avoid it.

My faith in humanity is only ever restored, partially at times, when I feel the togetherness on DU with fellow Democrats who feel the same way I do about how hideous the Republicans and their mentality really is. Sometimes, even the few friends I have in life, that I can only keep in touch with online, are too busy or too occupied doing other things to be able to get them to talk to me much at all any more. So, DU, it is.

I wish I had advice, but all I have that I can try to offer is safe, virtual
I'm sorry you are surrounded by that kind of toxic negativity too. It's horrible to have to put up with that.

It just seems like these rightwingers are more and more emboldened by trump's example. It's disgusting to watch on every level. It's like they aren't a human species at all.

I had a friend tell me today that "liberals are pushing for a one world order, and it's going to be lead by Bill Gates".

She's a former school superintendent, now retired. These people are friggin nuts.

When people have more education and are still seriously believe some of the crazy right wing theories like that, it feels even more hopeless for humanity. You'd think they could reason their way through it and understand how ridiculous that it, but nope.

and DUers are so great! I felt better after that thread, but I'm still reeling from all the crap this person threw at me, in a very short period of time.

You really do expect people with higher educations to have better critical thinking skills.

I'm the Democratic Precinct chair and I've basically given up on Nextdoor.

Here's the thing: It promotes gossip and racial fear mongering. They will talk about a black guy walking around with an empty gas can. They also post pictures of license plates without justification and say, "This person was driving recklessly". Who knows if that person was even driving??? It could just be their neighbor and they're creating this to get revenge with the neighbor.

I also saw two neighbors get in a bit spat on Nextdoor. One woman said, "Please tell your neighbors to pick up their trash". She posts a picture of trash in her driveway. Well it turns out the woman posting had thrown her trash in the neighbor's yard and the neighbor was just returning it. It's an ugly place.

I even tried reporting violations as doxxing with the license plates. Nothing ever happened.
I don't discuss my politics on it..Although one year a friend of mine talked me into posting a meet and greet for Democratic candidates. The post was immediately removed. (I never posted anything politically after that) I have sat and watched as countless Republicans have their say. There was a kid who killed himself. At first there was some concern. Then when everyone found out he was a sex offender, they started trashing him beyond belief. He was only 18.

I've been checking out his opponent, Phil Arballo. I'm currently working on a project to see which districts (through out the country) can possibly be flipped. I'm sorry to hear that your district is so red and that you have to put up with such fascist behavior.

He’s a local ADA. He was a great candidate, but only came within 15 points. I am pulling for Phil. I will do anything I can to help his campaign. Lord knows I’d be ecstatic to have him. I can only judge by my area and it seems extremely hopeless here at the moment.

(pronounced Misery).

A new guy moved into the neighborhood, 30 something, and saw me out by my car, came over to talk. First thing he did was say, "Hey, did you hear they shot Nancy Pelosi?" His idea of a joke, I guess, for he laughed and laughed. And when asked about the pandemic, he said, "If you don't watch tv, then nothing is going on." Sick. But I'm not worried, don't think he will be "living" here very long.
