need to wake up. How many deaths in their ranks will it take? This is all so surreal. The death toll is not getting enough media attention and it seems people are shrugging their shoulders. Have we become so callous?

That’s their go to now from trumpers I know. Ok so people are dying, a lot of people die every year from different things and it doesn’t make the news or change our lives. It’s stunning really that they can just so easily disconnect from reality.

Fewer than 4,000 people die from accidental non-boating related drowning each year, a number that remains fairly steady. Not all of those are swimming pool related (some drown in the ocean, some in lakes, a lot in flooded rivers/creeks that they misjudged, some in truly bizarre work-related accidents, etc.). If 360,000 people were dying in swimming pools each year, swimming pools would likely be banned or much more heavily regulated. The number has also gone down significantly since local ordinances *did* begin regulating pools, like requiring that a pool have a child-proof fence and gate around it, and similar requirements.

Last year, I heard a sound in my back yard, and it was a swimming pool. Trying to break into my basement window!!!

Well, I got out my trusty 12 gauge and fired a warning shot over its deep end and it hightailed it into the woods behind my house. I never saw it again, but heaven only knows what it might have done if it had gotten in. Thank God I'm a responsible gun-owner.
