(24,450 posts)Trump is being his usual stupid self. Not to mention that Washington and Oregon (maybe others) already have mail-in ballotting without any major concerns. Just more flotsam and dirt and distraction from him being in freefall

(32,759 posts)this after a landslide defeat this fall? Any ideas or plans for how to react if he tells republican governors to ignore the popular vote in states where he lost?
The more complicated question is not whether states can do this, but whether they would. Republican lawmakers have been steadfastly loyal to Trump throughout his tumultuous tenure. If Trump were to ask states to appoint electors instead of having an election, they certainly might follow his request, especially those states where the president enjoys wide popularity. In 24 of the 30 states with Republican legislatures, a majority of people approve of the presidents job performance, according to last months Gallup survey. Those states control 224 electoral votesenough to throw the elections results into doubt. States could also wreak havoc on the election by not taking steps now to prepare for voting during a pandemic. If only a few states allowed their legislatures to appoint electors, or postponed electoral selection indefinitely, the November election could result in no candidate receiving a majority of electoral-college votes.
This is a real concern. If no candidate wins a majority of electors, the Twelfth Amendment empowers the House of Representatives to decide who will be president. Although the House is controlled by Democrats, predicting the outcome is not that simple. The Amendment requires the House to choose the president by voting as states, not as individual members. So, instead of 435 individual votes, there would be 50 state votes.

(22,187 posts)the republican controlled supreme court still ruled that the primaries still go on, despite efforts to change the date of the primary. The voting still went on when the state supreme court ruled that it must, and as a results, republicans lost.
The margins are getting larger and larger for the democratic party and efforts by republicans to suppress voter turnouts will get more outlandish, more brazen. The so called claim by rump of fraud is fake as usual, with nothing to support his false claims. Don't people get arrested for making false claims (e.g., if it were someone else besides the idiot in chief making such a fake claim (fraud), they would be arrested for making a false report to police.
