General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe are going to be at 80,000 deaths from C-19 by the end of tomorrow and we will pass ...
.... the total # of Americans who died in WW I by the end of the month. BTW that figure is
116,000. And Fox News and 35% (guess) of Americans still support Trump. This is madness.
Why is Trump still in the White House? I know it is useless but still please call your senators
and congress critters and demand Trump's removal.

CONCLUSION/ A significant percentage of the U.S. COVID-19 outbreak is attributable to a federal response hobbled by Trump's secret side communications with China. That changed only in Marchafter it was too late.

(70,275 posts)he bet 8k. i bet 1m.
my only question now is when he will pay out. still a long way from 1m, but since we busted his (hitler's) number in week 3, iirc correctly, i told him that he has lost and i have clinched.
he took it like a trumpkin.
thinking about doubling down that we will hit it by the 4th.

(34,117 posts)Oh, wait. It was.
Think we've crossed 80,000 while I was typing this?
I had to check. We did - we're now 80004.
Not minimizing the deaths. Just disgusted that so many are treating this disease so casually (like the 90% of unmasked, non-distancing customers & 25% of employees in Target yesterday when I stopped in to pick up crucial meds).

(31,261 posts)1.5 weeks ago. Maybe part of everyone is shutting down as this crisis ratchets up. I know personally I am making judgement errors that I normally don't make. I can't say that I have ever witnessed anything like this in my life.

(34,117 posts)I said "a week or two." I thought about saying it seemed like only yesterday as a bit of hyperbole - that actually wasn't, but I wanted a bigger difference than a couple thousand. I was hoping for a nice even chunk of time - no such luck. So I settled for a week or two - which inlclude the relevant day.
It's hard to keep track of everything. At least when my grandparents went through it (the 1918 pandemic), they didn't have information overload (and fake news to contend with). I feel sorry for my students who are taking finals this week - and then have to shift immediately to studying for the bar exam because our annoying supreme court hasn't yet decided whether they are taking the exam in July or September. (And if it's december, they've already lost two weeks since final exam week is 2 weeks late). Ugh.

(31,261 posts)Speaker Pelosi and Democratic Senate Leader Schumer have been pretty solid, except for buying into the new $2,000 per month thing.
There is just so much information overload, maybe vaccines, medicines that may help ill covid19 patients, drinking bleach, ect. It is easy to sort of semi-shutdown. I am normally busy and optimistic, but I am even having blue spates where it is hard to get going, I only did a full exercise workout yesterday morning after not being able to get started and sustain a workout for two weeks.
