I just found out that my youngest daughter is moving her family to New Hampshire to join this. I dunno ... is the kick in the gut that I'm feeling justified? She also ranted about how she couldn't get yarn at some craft stuff because it's being run by a bunch of socialists who won't let everyone in the store at the same time. And, gosh, the store makes them stand a certain distance away from each other. I suddenly feel like I have entered an alternate reality.

(146,338 posts)However, that "Project" really never produced any fruit. Some folks did move there and are being pretty much left alone to live their iconoclastic lives without disruption, but they did not manage their goal of taking over New Hampshire and turning it into a Libertarian State.
The problem is that too many "damn liberals" also moved to New Hampshire from adjoining states for other reasons.
The Free State Project was predictably a failure from the start.

(14,649 posts)It's disappointing because they're both freshly retired from the AF and in positions to get some really nice jobs.
And I'm sure they won't like the "damn liberals" they find after giving up everything and moving to a more frigid climate without the employment opportunities they have now.

The original idea was that 20,000 people would move to NH. But that hasn't panned out too well, and they need 15,000 more. The announcement by Sorens (the person who conceived of the idea) was that if that number didn't materialize by 2022, they'd need a 'rethink.'
