The county I live in has opened testing to anyone who lives in the county for free. It was quick and painless. We drove up, they checked our IDs and asked a few questions, took the swabs which did not hurt but did make us sneeze, and we drove off.
Our 28th anniversary is next week, and this was truly the oddest date we have ever been on. Did feel like we were in a sci to movie with everyone wearing white coveralls and full face masks, and people walking around in fatigues. These were real military, with no guns.
My husband goes back to work next week, he was sent home at full pay because he was over 60, as was everyone else over 60 in his company. He was able to do some work from home, but wants to make sure he has a clean bill of health before he goes back in. Neither of us have any signs of covid, other than the ones that mimic old age like body aches.
It was very well done. I hope everyone has a chance to get checked. They did tell us it will take 5 to 7 days to get the results. I do not know who is processing the tests.

(9,461 posts)That was very a responsible thing you and your husband did. I hope the results are negative for both of you. Take care.

(51,642 posts)help to give you immunity (even if it is just short term). I wish we knew more answers.

(36,747 posts)It may be full immunity, it may be nothing...if I have them of course.

(9,952 posts)we might have been exposed also. Do a Op when you hear about your test and hopefully I can catch it especially if it shows you had it. I want to take one of those tests too. Way back in Feb we were thinking we already had it.

(7,339 posts)There was at least one long thread here of DUers describing a similar situation, myself included. It'd be nice to start hearing if any have antibodies.

(1,773 posts)Science and health community. My daughter has opted to wait, she is 8 months pregnant and will get tested right before she gives birth. I figure it doesn't hurt, it may help. If it helps for the future, I am all about it.
I lost my dad and my brother to cancer. They both had testing and procedures done that they knew would be of no help to them, but now people survive longer than my family members did with the same types of cancer. I like to think they helped. It may not help anyone, but the experts seem to think testing helps. It only took a few minutes of my time. We are also in a county which was hit kind of hard, as we have meat packing plants.

(48,955 posts)I am going to adopt it - as it fits my father, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1985. At that point, if not detected early enough (before any spread) and fully removed there was a 7 year ave life expectancy - which was true for my father. They (Dr.s) thought they had caught it soon enough, went to operate, and found it had spread to another nodule. From that point on it all efforts were primarily to slow the progression. He was treated through the Indiana U. medical school affiliated institution (from where his son and d-i-l graduated) I don't know that he participated in tests, but I rather think he would have. 20 years later his son-in-law was diagnosed. Treatment has revolutionized in the ensuing year. 7 years out my bil (Dad's aforementioned sil) remained cancer free - and continues to do so today.

(1,773 posts)Your father may have helped with my husband's recovery. My dad died from lung cancer, my brother from multiple myaloma. So from my family to yours, thank you and good wishes for continued health.

(8,073 posts)Here in my county in NC you have to have a doctor recommend to the health department that you get a test. I've heard some counties you can have the doctor test you and he/she will send it to LabCorp.

(28,344 posts)just fine today but couldn't shake the low-grade fever even with Tylenol so I had to call work and let them know. Sucks because now I have to have two negative tests before I can go back to work. Oh well. Def. better safe than sorry. I couldn't live with myself if I did have it and brought it in to my vets.
Here in our part of Germany, it is still impossible without connections, which we don't have.
The answer today was again "if you are not showing symptoms, stay home as much as you can and don't call us unless you start showing serious symptoms."
Tech
(1,773 posts)in a tube some years ago. I am sad that I will never get to travel to Germany. I do hope you get testing soon.
