The graphs themselves are very interesting and useful, but the interpretation of them is bizarre.

(11,391 posts)someone suggested it had a lot to do with how much (and what dates) "initial" activity occurred. But that's just a guess.

According to NYT, Maine is increasing and MA is decreasing in new cases...but these are rates. The actual number of new cases in MA is probably higher than Maine.
Currently Maine only has 1,515 which means it is going to go up at a higher rate, so if Maine gets 100 cases a day, it is going up at a 10% rate.
MA has 79,000, so if it gets 1,000 cases a day, it is only going up at 1.26%
